I know this is an old server, but maybe someone can help?
Server works with 300GB SAS drives (from IBM), wont work with 900GB SAS (from HP). Drives are not detected, only red light. ILO says "Fault", the ProductID from the drives are not visible, only says N/A.
(the 900gb drives work, tested on another server from IBM)
Updated controller to latest v6.64, did not help. Also updated everything else that is possible, bios, ilo...etc.
The only thing I did not manage to update is the Backplane firmware, it is currently at 1.16, but there is a 1.18 version available: https://support.hpe.com/connect/s/softwaredetails?softwareId=MTX_021f12ee5c464435b6bebe07c3
The problem with this is, that it is impossible to install it. From other forum posts I found out that this update requires the HP SPP 2013.09.0 iso. The backplane is not detected on newer SPPs. Via linux it wont update, it says it needs to be in "offline mode".
But the SPP 2013.09.0 is nowhere to be found, all download links are dead.
So my questions are:
1. Does anyone have the SPP 2013.09.0 iso and is willing to share it so I can try this last option to maybe get the 900gb drives working with the backplane update?
2. Should I even bother with this. Did a backplane firmware update ever make a at first uncompatible drive become compatible/detected...? TBH I dont completely understand this backplane firmware role in this...

SolutionHello,
You may download HP Service Pack for ProLiant Version 2013.09.0(C) Apr 30, 2014 from here. One apparent reason it was not found was due to the fact that there are three sets of Service Pack for ProLiant. One for HPE ProLiant Gen6-8, one for Gen9 and one for Gen10.
There is no firmware from HPE available to make third party hardware work with HPE products like that of the corresponding HPE hardware components themselves.
The Backplane, though is not an intelligent device like that of the HPE Smart Array Controllers and HPE hard drives and acts as a pass through, does have components to relay signally from the controller, which is in turn is communicated to the hard drives, heat sensors etc. The Backplane is not a device one would configure using the HPE Smart Storage Administrator or any other HPE provides management software. For the functionality that is built-in to this component, there is firmware to control it.

Re: DL360 G7 P410i controller- not recognizing 900GB HP SAS drives
@TVVJ thank you for the reply and the link.
But unfortunatelly I can't download this since I do not have a Support or Warranty contract. Strange that I can download the latest SPP normally, but not this old obsolete one
Could you maybe upload this to some ftp or file sharing service for download?

Re: DL360 G7 P410i controller- not recognizing 900GB HP SAS drives
Hello,
I Understand your concern here. But due to some security reasons all the SPP versions are not available for public downloads. We need to have a valid support agreement linked with the passport account to download the same. I would request you to log a case with HPE support to check if they might be able to help on this. Ideally this would be a charged service.
Thanks,
TAM

Re: DL360 G7 P410i controller- not recognizing 900GB HP SAS drives
Thank you @Tam92, I will probably not do this. Too much hassle for something that might not even help with detecting the drives in the end.
Edit: Tried to open a case, but I cant anyway, since I dont have an active service/warranty contract...
