DL360 Gen10: Authentication on this drive carrier failed due to a communication error
Hello, I have an issue about DL360 Gen10 hard drive. I am using Smart Array P408i-a.
My company bought a server DL360 Gen10 whose drives are SAS HDD several years ago.
In order to increase the volume size, I added a same size HDD and tried to reconfigure RAID. Unfortunately, I received a warning below and could not reboot the system.
I read guides about troubleshooting gen 10, but have not figured out a solution.
Is this just a compatibility problem? and is there any solutions for this problem?

Hi,
Try to update the Smart Array controller firmware and see if it fixes the issue.
If still not fixed, the dirve may not be compatible witht the controller.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply! I already update the firmware but it did not work out. By the way, how can I check my drive is compatible with the Proliant? Do I have to always set the drive into the Proliant?
Also, my company which is located in Japan tried to purchase a genuine HPE drive but we could not because it is very expensive. Is there anywhere that you can buy a genuine drive at a reasonable price? I'm sorry if this question is inadequate in this forum.

Hi,
A compatible drive is recognised by the controller in the form of Firmware compatibility.
The firmware's between the hardwares should be compatible.

The Error indicates that the Smart Array controller couldn't authenticate the drive firmware since these are Non-HPE Disks.
Now it will have no impact as these are industry standard drives however the controller won't be able to manage the Drive Smart LED and any performance/failure or storage IO Latency issues. HPE will not be able to provide any recommendations.
Therefore I would suggest using HPE Authentic Drives only.
