DL360e Gen8 mixing memory modules of different capacities

Hi,

I need to expand memory in DL360e Gen8. There are 2 CPU's installed and all 12 slots are filled with 12x 4GB modules of DDR3 HPE SmartMemory part number 47648-071  (RDIMM, 1,5V, 1rank, 1600MHz.

I have 2x 16GB modules on hand. I need to add them to expand the RAM. Where can I insert them? Can I remove one 4GB module in Channel 3 of each CPU's and replace them with 16GB modules?

Module spec: 16GB 2Rx4 PC3 - 12800R 11 - 12 - E2, HP P/N: 672612-081

Re: DL360e Gen8 mixing memory modules of different capacities

Those documents don't say much about mixing different memory sizes. They mention that mixing different voltages and speed is possible. So i tried it and it works! I have 16+4 GB in Ch3 on both processors. I have now 72GB of RAM. 2x 4GB modules were removed before from channels 3 on both CPU's.

I guess this is not optimal but it works. I don't need huge memory throughput just capacity. HTH.
