DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

I have a DL380 G4 which we are testing our SOE with. I am using RIS to deploy the image, and after resolving the reboot problem (where the Smart Array 6i controller had the incorrect IRQ setting), I am now able to boot and get the RIS menu screens up. However, after loading the PXE boot strap, I now get a error stating:

"Setup did not find any hard disks drives installed on your computer...etc"

I am suspecting it is the 6i Controller drivers not be loaded correctly. I have downloaded the latest drivers and put those in the correct dir's. Has anyone come across this problem...what am I missing?

Also, is there an updated firmware for the Controller card yet, I could not seem to find one?

Cheers

Thanks for this, and I might be missing something here, but this link does not point to any new drivers?

The page contains the following:

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

RDP means ??

SOE - Standard Operating Environment
RIS - Remote Installer Service, This is what is used to deploy Operating sysyems using PXE boot and Windows Server 2000\2003.

When I intially had the IRQ driver problem, downloading and installing the latest driver DID NOT help until I read in these forums that the IRQ had to be manually changed, which I did and aleviated that problem. However, now that I boot using PXE boot and get as far as loading the intial boot drivers, I get the message saying that no disks were found, even though the arrays have been created..

It seems to me that it is not loading the driver correctly. I am wondering if the 6i Controller needs a firmware update. Do you know if any are available for download?

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated

RDP is Rapid Deploy Pack.
Try find some things in Microsoft knowledge base.

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

Finally got this to work with RIS:

There is a gotcha that I was not aware of

http://groups.google.com.au/groups?q=cpqcissm.dll&hl=en&lr=&selm=b5eb4dd9.0404010938.7f167e5c%40posting.google.com&rnum=1

It seems the cpqcissm.dll is not supposed to be included in the txtsetup.oem file when using RIS.

I removed the dll line from the txtsetup.oem as suggested from the link above and it worked after that.

Here is an example of the txtsetup.oem that works for me!

[Disks]
d1 = "Smart Array 5x and 6x Driver Diskette",\TXTSETUP.OEM,\

[Defaults]
SCSI = 0060

[SCSI]
B060 = "Smart Array 5300 Controller"
B178 = "Smart Array 5i, 532, 5312 Controllers"
0046 = "Smart Array 6i, 641, 642, 6400, 6400EM Controllers"

[Files.scsi.B060]
driver = d1,cpqcissm.sys,cpqcissm
inf = d1,cpqcissm.inf
catalog = d1,cpqcissm.cat

[Files.scsi.B178]
driver = d1,cpqcissm.sys,cpqcissm
inf = d1,cpqcissm.inf
catalog = d1,cpqcissm.cat

[Files.scsi.0046]
driver = d1,cpqcissm.sys,cpqcissm
inf = d1,cpqcissm.inf
catalog = d1,cpqcissm.cat

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

I have the same problem as you describe.
But none of the soultions have helped me.

Im curious to know if your RIS server is a 2003 version.

At the start of the installation i recieve the message that no disks was found. Then i have the possibility to skip automatic detection of disks and controllers but i am not able to add any drivers.

The funny thing is that if i try with a G3 model i works fine.

Anyone out there with some more solutions?

Thanks

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

Hi Anders

Nope, the RIS server we have is a Win 2000 version.

Make sure that you REMOVE the line, not only comment out the cpqcissm.dll line from the txtsetup.oem file. I tried commenting it out but found out later that you have you actually have to remove the complete line for it to work properly.

If you use the above procedure, be sure to add most up to date above mentioned DLL into you the \$oem$\$$\OEMDIR\ Directory, and restart the BINL service for the changes to take effect..

Hope this helps

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

I have a DL380 G4 that I can not get a RIS screen to come up. Everytime I do a PXE boot I get the DHCP address just fine but when I hit F12 to start the RIS the screen is black for a couple seconds then it reboots. I had another problem with a hang during the reboot process that has been since resolved but I still have the same problems with RIS...any thoughts. This thread sounds similar to my problem but changing the IRQ from the default of '5' to the only other value of '7' doesn't seem to have fixed my issue. Is there something else I need to do or did I miss read? Any help would be appreciated since I can't deploy this server until I get this fixed since our server deployment policy is based on using RIS.

Thanks in advance,

Sean

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

Sean

Make sure you change the IRQ on the 1st NIC ONLY and that both NIC's have have been patched into the LAN.

When I first changed the NIC the settings for some strange reason it did not take. I had to do it a second time...

Also, make sure there are NO other devices that have the same IRQ. The only solution that has worked for me and others is this resolution. After that guess HP support is a phone call away, although when I did call them here in Australia they were not aware of the IRQ fix...

Also, make sure the BIOS is the most up to date..

Hope you get there!

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

I took your original post as saying to change the IRQ on the 6I but with your clarification I changed the IRQ on the NIC and it works fine. Though I find this fix to be odd especially with HP not knowing about it. Either way I appreciate your help.

Thanks again,

Sean

I think it is more a work around at the moment. I reckon they will be releasing a newer version of the BIOS sooner than you think. Just glad you have the machine working..

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

Hello again.

Its pretty frustrating, i have tried all solutions availble but im still in the problem with the disk that cant be regonized.

can you please confirm that the structure of the image should look like this?:

\$oem$
--\$1
--\$$
------\OEMDIR
--\Textmode

The textsetup.oem looks like this:

[Disks]
d1 = "Smart Array 5x and 6x Driver Diskette",\TXTSETUP.OEM,\

[Defaults]
SCSI = B060

[SCSI]
B060 = "Smart Array 5300 Controller"
B178 = "Smart Array 5i, 532, 5312 Controllers"
0046 = "Smart Array 6i, 641, 642, 6400, 6400EM Controllers"

[Files.scsi.B060]
driver = d1,cpqcissm.sys,cpqcissm
inf = d1,cpqcissm.inf
catalog = d1,cpqcissm.cat

[Files.scsi.B178]
driver = d1,cpqcissm.sys,cpqcissm
inf = d1,cpqcissm.inf
catalog = d1,cpqcissm.cat

[Files.scsi.0046]
driver = d1,cpqcissm.sys,cpqcissm
inf = d1,cpqcissm.inf
catalog = d1,cpqcissm.cat

[Config.cpqcissm]
value = "",tag,REG_DWORD,103
value = Parameters\PnpInterface,5,REG_DWORD,1
value = Parameters\Device,NumberOfRequests,REG_DWORD,80

[HardwareIds.scsi.B060]
id = "PCI\VEN_0E11&DEV_B060","cpqcissm"

[HardwareIds.scsi.B178]
id = "PCI\VEN_0E11&DEV_B178","cpqcissm"

[HardwareIds.scsi.0046]
id = "PCI\VEN_0E11&DEV_0046","cpqcissm"

I assume that the problem in this forum is concerning the installation af an image on a windows 2003 server.

Thanks in advance..... Merry christmas and a happy newyear.. :O)

Is there anyone here that has been successful in ris and the G4's?

Please let me know if you figure it out... and I will let you know if i ever figure it out :)

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

I was finally able to get it to work for W2003 on our DL380 G4 by adding this line to txtsetup.sif file on the RIS image, in the [HardwareIdsDatabase] section. I got my clue from this:

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

See Customer Advisory EM041123_CW01 (From HP) I'm using a W2k RIS server and after getting a DHCP address and hitting F12 the server would reboot. FIX - Ensure your FirmWare for the 6i is greater than 2.34. I used the FirmWare upgrade CD (Downloaded from HP.)

However, I can now get into PXE but when I run the "bootdisk" for Ghost, it hangs after stating "Loading PC DOS". :(

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

Joe,

I'm getting a similar issue. Last night I tried to load PXE so I could ghost my new G4. I got to F12, got an IP, even got a few of my custom PXE menus, but when I started getting the first actual "boot disk" it hangs at "Transferring Image File." I'm using PXE and TFTP services from 3COM. I don't even get to a point where the boot disk is loading, it just hangs for hours at trasferring image file. Any ideas on this? Thanks, all.

Has anyone actually found a solution to this yet? If you have, could you please attach a copy of the .SIF file?

Re: DL380 G4 not recognizing disk array

What I've found is the startrom.com file check serial ports and the G4's have virtual serial ports. It may be an interupt problem but if you disable the USB, all serial port the server will boot and the serial console feature the server to boot to the startrom.com.
