Re: DL380 G5 and X5260
What I am trying to find out is wheather or not this board will work with 52xx series CPUs, which are dual core, but not 50xx or 51xx as the board specifies.

Re: DL380 G5 and X5260
seems strange to me, but when you look at the quickspecs it says standard DL380 g5 models shipped with 52xx CPUs are 461453-xx1.
When you search in partsurfer for 461453-421, it lists the quad-core systemboard 436526-001 :
http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main?sel_flg=partlist&model=461453-421&modname=HP+ProLiant+DL380+G5+X5260+3.3GHz+Dual+Core+2GB+Ba&template=main&plist_sval=ALL&plist_styp=flag&bomlist=Y&strsrch=&keysel=%3F
Since the quad-core sysboard supports both quad- and dual-core CPUs, can be that HP makes this in case you want to make future updates, so this is not very accurate answer, but the 52xx CPUs are delivered with quad core sysboard
