DL380 GEN10 HOT SPARE CPU
Hi everyone I have a rather strange question.
We have some DL380 Gen10 Servers with two CPUs each. Is it possible to have them configured to handle one of the two CPUs as "hot spare"? We don't want them to handle any server transactions, just to be there as a spare in case of a failure of the first CPU.
The reason behind that is power consumption and MS licensing costs since the current load can be handled by one CPU without problem.
Thank you in advance, George

Re: DL380 GEN10 HOT SPARE CPU
Yes, it can be done, there are several ways to do it..
You may disable it at the BIOS but in order to enable it again, you must reboot the server.

If the server runs any modern Windows Server OS it can also be disabled

Re: DL380 GEN10 HOT SPARE CPU
If you do this, you are unable to use the Memory, which is belonging to the second CPU and also the second PCI Riser and all PCI Cards in these Riser.
If the first CPU is dead, the Server will not boot.
So, I prefer to remove the second CPU, move all Memory to the first CPU.
Or, disable only Cores: 16 + 16 Core to 8 + 8 Core
