Re: dl380 terminator board

This must be a g3 server I think? If it is then you will need to:

1: remove rear access panel - there is a latch handle to facilitate this
2:remove front fan bracket - remove hot plug fans first
3:remove/fit terminator

strange looking terminator!!

Re: dl380 terminator board

This SCSI terminator is used when you want to put your DL380G3 drive cage in duplex mode. By default it is shipped in simplex mode and the SCSI terminator is not used. It means that all drive bays are connected to the primary SCSI connector. In duplex mode the drive cage is split with bays 0 and 1 on one bus and bays 3 through 5 on the second bus. If the short SCSI cable that connects both parts of the drive cage is attached to the second SCSI connector of the system board, a SCSI terminator must be installed. I think you may want to look pictures from the servers maintanence guide to understand what I am saying. ;)

You can find maintanence guide at:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/supportinformation/techpubs/maintenance_guides/291916-003_rev3_us.pdf

Look page 44 or just search for SCSI terminator.
If it ain't broken, don't fix it!

Re: dl380 terminator board

Along with the maintenance guide above, You don't necessarily have to take the fans out of the carrier, just make sure you make sure they are seated all the way when you put the carier back in.

I know about RTFM, but I got a little confused on this too. Here is what I hope is an easier to understand method:

Standing in front of the server looking at the the backplane after removing the fan carrier, you should be able see two ribbon cables: one coming from the main board on the right side and one jumping two connectors in the middle of the back plane. Disconnect the latter jumper from the lower connector (the one with cutout holes above and below it) and attach it to the SCSI connector directly opposite (SCSI 0). You will have to twist the cable. You should now have two short scsi cables running from the mainboard to the backplane. Take the terminator from its anti-static bag and orient the tabs so that the smaller tab fits in the smaller hole below the jumper connector and the larger tab fits into the larger hole above the connector (you can also line it up on the shape of the connector). It should just snap in.
In duplex mode they are probably considering a RAID 1 for slots 0 & 1 and some kind of RAID 5, 0, or 0+1 for slots 2-5. Let us know how it goes.
