email / dialup

Have Neoserver 150 with 56K modem and 10 workstations. Everytime a workstation checks email using Outlook Express the Neoserver dials the ISP. Since OE is set to check for mail every 30mins the unit is dialling all the time. Is this correct? The Neoserver is set to collect mail from the ISP 5 times a day, from there OE should only collect mail from the Neoserver, correct?

Thanks

Re: email / dialup

I have my email settings going straight to the isp, eg mail.optusnet.com.au rather than mail.neoserver (or whatever the default is. Therfore I would expect it to dial up each time. I have the server set to disconnect after 30 minutes (if there is no activity), and the email clients set to check email every 15 minutes. Therfore the connection isw maintained until computers are turned off at night. This means that teh modem only really dials out once a day. (This works for me as My ISP is a fixed rate regardless of connection time).

My problem is that the modem sometimes does not hang up, and will run all night. I'm going to apply the 1.9 OS (fingers crossed ) to see if this fixes the issue.

Given that yours disconnects, have you applied the patch?

Re: email / dialup

The NeoSever is working as designed. The check mail time interval that you set in Outlook express will determine how often the NeoSever needs to connect with the ISP mail server. If you set the NeoServer connection time to be longer than the email check time you specify in Outlook express, then the connection will not hang up every time. So the NeoServer modem does not have to reconnect to the ISP mail server for each workstation, every time the email is check by Outlook Express.

Re: email / dialup

DE should not cause the Neoserver 150 to dial out for mail if you select Neoserver hosted mail from the Interned Setting menu. If set up correctly the Neoserver will dial every N' minutes or N' times daily and DE will quickly check the Neoserver based on the time schedule you select in the software.

Re: email / dialup

Please, please do not get confused between the original NeoServer and the NeoServer 150. They are two different units, however Compaq Diags (techsupport!), seem to forget this aspect - so don't go around applying patches for the former to the latter - you've been warned!
