Expanding an Array

Expanding an Array

I have a CL380 clustered system running WinNT 4.0 and dual CR3500 array controllers. This array consists of 4 18gb physical drives making up 4 logical drives. I want to add a 5th 18gb drive and expand one of the logical drives. How can this be accomplished?

Thanks.

Re: Expanding an Array

If Am reading this right.

so you want to end up with 3-18 and one raid 0 at 36gig logicaldrives..

I think the best way is to COPY not MOVE "just incase it croaks on you" the data off one of the drive you want to expand then delete that drive through ACU
then reboot insert the additional drive.. go back to the ACU and select the 2 unconfigured drive and set it as raid-0 or what ever you are trying to do..

then run windisk to re-create the logical drive you deleted earlier and then copy the files back...

the other way is to just add the drive and through ACU just add it as another logical drive. Then use NT4 windisk to extend the partition and the data should be intact. it will reboot and run check disk "makesure not to cancel this" or else it will host up the files. when it is done you will end up with a bigger drive but I dont recommend using this method.

Re: Expanding an Array

Sure, just add the new drive to the RAID 0 and use drive spanning to increase the size.

Re: Expanding an Array

Something else I did find:
NOTE: The additional capacity will have a different drive letter than
the original logical drive. If the expanded capacity and the original capacity must share the same drive letter, you must restart the HP NetServer. For more information about drive
letters, see "Expanding Capacity Online under Windows NT" at http://www.e4services.com/files/NetRAID_Series_User_Guide.pdf

Re: Expanding an Array

Just a clarification here. The CL380 is a Proliant (not Netserver). It does not have a NetRAID controller, but does include an integrated Smart Array controller. The Smart Array controllers do not use NetRAID.

Eric has the correct tool - ACU (Array Configuration Utility)

For future reference, please post Proliant issues in the SERVERS - Proliant forum. Thanks!
