Expanding arrays but SSA is missing extend logical drive option
So I have to expand the array on all our servers, mostly gen 10 DL380 units that have RAID 1 with 2 - 1Tb drives all on a 408i-p controller.
On a test lab system, all was well. Replace 1 drive, let the mirror rebuild, replace the other, let it rebuild and the iLO shows 2 - 4Tb drives. I go into Smart Storage Admin and on selecting the logical drive, the option in the right pane to "Extend Logical Drive" works beautifully!. Then on a production system I do the same, but no option to extend, but the drives are detected. The only option is to create a second logical drive which I'd like to avoid.
I dig a bit and come to find out if I update intelligent provisioning, it also updates the smart storage embedded utility, so I download the ISO. I log in the iLO card mount the ISO boot off of it, starts the upgrade, but then gives an error that the upgrade to NVRAM failed. Now when the server POSTS, F10 to get into Smart provisioning does nothing to get into the full SSA. I can only get into a lighter version within the iLO interface. Either way is there another simpler way to extend the logical drive?

Re: Expanding arrays but SSA is missing extend logical drive option
Hi,
Some controllers may require Cache module to perform Expand/Extend activity.
Please make sure your lab server and production server both are of same configuration including HW and FW versions.
Features not supported with HPE SR SmartCache
Thank You!
I work with HPE but opinions expressed here are mine.

Re: Expanding arrays but SSA is missing extend logical drive option
Hello,
Assuming the production systems have the write cache and battery installed...
It may be easier to boot off of the SPP and select interactive option. This will then give you the option to run the SSA. The version of the SSA in Intelligent Provisioning (IP) is not updated unless you update IP. It is relatively unusual to run IP unless you are performing the initial setup of the server. The FW on controllers will be updated over time, but IP is usually not, so the version of IP is usually a pretty old version that some times will not provide all of the features that should be available.
