Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi

I have a server giving me a failure on the IML. Since the server is functioning perfectly fine I would like to clear this log entries so the status should be OK.
However, I am not able to clear it. If I select one of the entries and click on "Mark selected items repaired", it still shows up in the list. I have also tried "Mark all items repaired" and "clear all IML entries", but with the same result.

Anyone seen this before?

Thanks.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Thomas,

may u can attach a screenshot from your iml!?
Are the items which arre marked as repaired also shows as repaired items?
lat quest.: which agent version is running?

there are 3 ways to clear the logs:
- IML Viewer
- HP Insight Diagnostic -> IML
- clear NVRAM

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Thomas,
check you have READ/WRITE (or READ/CREATE) SNMP community string defined as well.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Thomas,

You need to add a community String with Read_Write access in the SNMP to be able to modify the IML from within SMH.

1 You could use Start>Programs>HP/Compaq System Tools>Compaq Integrated Management Log Viewer> LOG(in the menu at the top - Log)>Clear All Entries

2 Open SNMP Services goto Security Tab under Accepted Community String Click on Add -> Private (String Name) -> Read_Write(Rights).

Raj.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Igor / Michael

Thank you both for your reply.

The version of IML I am running is v5.3.0.0 as part of Proliant Support Pack 7.50.

I am accessing the IML log from the System Management Homapage, under Logs. See attached screenshot of the log.

I have public and private SNMP community strings defined, but both are READ ONLY. If I change one/both to READ CREATE, I get an error in IML when trying to close any events. The error is "The set attempt failed. Performing sets requires that a community string with set access be present on the ssytem. Set must be enabled in the HP management agents."

From HP System Management Homepage, I also went to Settings\SNMP & Agent Settings and changed SNMP Sets to ENABLE.

The result is that I am still not able to clear any events in IML.

One thing to mention is that I have not rebooted the server after any of the above changes as this server is in production.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Rajashekar Chintakunta

I followed your procedure and cleared all events and changed rights for community private to READ WRITE, but I still get the same error when trying to clear events through the IML (through System Management Homepage / Log).

Do I need to restart the server for the changes to take effect?

Thanks.

You need at least restart HP management agents. I typically do this operation with Control Panel->HP management agents->SNMP settings->Clear all thresholds

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Thomas,

Restarting the server is not required.

But you could restart the SNMP, Other HP services and check if the issue gets resolved.

HP Services: HP Foundation sevice, HP SMH.

Does it give any error message when you attempt to clear the logs or just the screen refreshes without any change.

Raj.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Raj

I restarted the services you suggested, but I still get the same error when selecting "Clear All IML Entries". See attached for the error.
My SNMP configuration is:
public = READ ONLY
private = READ WRITE
Accept SNMP packets from localhost only

Thanks.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Thomas,

Try upgrading the JVM and check if that helps.

Download FREE - Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 6

Visit the following site:

http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java/

Select Sun Microsystems under Java Runtime Solution and proceed to install the JVM.

or

http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_ie.jsp

And install the SW. It will install ActiveX component first than JVM.

Raj.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Raj

Thanks for the input and sorry about my late reply.

I can't find any icon in control panel for JRE or Java but I noticed a folder called "jvm" under my Program Files. From a readme file, it looks like this is J2RE v1.4.2_X

But anyway, you recommend that I upgrade to JRE latest version?
I am just worried that upgrading to J2RE latest version can cause problems to any of my systems running on those servers.

Appreciate your feedback.

Thanks.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi
I have just encountered this problem after downgrading from psp 7.70 to 7.60A.
My solution was to run CP006281 and when configuration was needed on SNMP Settings I ticked SNMP set, Remote Reboot and "clear all Thresholds"
Now all working. Hope this helps you

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Thomas!

Verify that you have enabled SNMP sets.

System Homepage -> Settings -> SNMP Web Agent -> SNMP & Agent Settings.

Make sure that SNMP sets are enabled.

If youre using SIM you should add the SIM-server to Accepted hosts...

Finally! To clear IML and/or mark items repaired you nedd to logged in as administrator.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Dragomir

Thank you for your reply.
This case has been open for quite some time now.
To be honest, I haven't paid that much attention to this lately, as it has not been a bit issue for me.
However, I did another test just now, and from the IML web page, I am still not able to clear or mark as done any of the items.
The only way to clear or mark as done, is to go to Start\All Programs\HP System Tools\ and start HP Proliant Integrated Management Log Viewer.

As you suggested, I have verified that SNMP set is enabled. And the user I am logging in with, is member of local admin group.

Since my first post, I have also upgraded my PSP to the latest available which is v7.70. So my IML is v5.10.0.0

Thanks.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Thomas

Can I ask if when you go to > Tasks > Reboot Server do you get ├в reboot not available├в or do you get options.
I have taken my PSP back up to 7.70 to see if I would get the same problem back, and I did, no set available when trying to clear logs. I went to the repository and manually ran cp006665.exe. on the configuration page, SNMP Settings I ticked SNMP set, Remote Reboot and "clear all Thresholds"
Strangely this time I had to repeat the running of cp006665. But the set was available after that, as was the reboot option.
This was found as a by-product whilst trying to find why I am getting an ASD once a day.
Again hope it helps

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

Hi Geoff

I did what u suggested, but not sure if these two things are related.

I am still not able to clear my IML entries.
I don't see any error message when I try to either choose "Mark as repaired" or "Clear all IML entries", but it is just that nothing happens. Meaning the same entries are still there.

Re: Failed to clear Integrated Management Log

start > settings > control panel > HP Management Agents | 'SNMP Settings' tab | Clear All Thresholds

sorted it out for me.

Changed the SNMP community string. It worked. Thanks :)
