Fan speed on ML30 Gen10 paired with QNAP TL-D400S using AMS

Hello,

I have a ProLiant ML30 Gen10 running Ubuntu 22.04 and I attached QNAP TL-D400S to it via supplied QXP-400eS-A1164 PCIe card. The trouble starts with (supposedly) Agentless management service (AMS) that reads out the temperature of the AHCI HDDs installed in QNAP TL-D400S and reports it to iLO as "AHCI HD Max". This makes the server fan speed dependant on the reading of the temeratures of those HDDs which are in fact not cooled by those fans.

So the questions are:

  • is there any way to configure AMS to ignore the drives installed in QNAP TL-D400S?
  • "AHCI HD Max" is being reported in iLO to be 10┬░C higher than the max temperature of any drive in the enclosure (reported by hddtemp) - is that an error this is intended behaviour that can be somehow configured?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Thank you for the post.

Please try increasing the Fan Speed / Cooling Settings to - Increased Cooling.

Thank you

Re: Fan speed on ML30 Gen10 paired with QNAP TL-D400S using AMS

Thanks for the reply but this is where second point kicks in - for example, at this momet the maximum temperature of any of the drives reported by hddtemp is 40┬░C, but the iLO states AHCI HD Max to be 50┬░C (ie 10┬░C higher than actual temperature) which makes the fans to be rather loud.

I consider the drive temperature of around 40┬░C under load to be normal.

Hi,

The initial query asked may not be possible as the AMS would be monitoring all components.

Since the Drives are non HPE it could be the possible cause of unexpected behavior.
