SolutionHi @Nouvong1987 ,
The error "no controller found" typically appears during boot, in iLO management, or when using configuration tools like Smart Storage Administrator (SSA). This can occur if the controller is not detected, not properly initialized, or if you're using an incompatible tool for MR controllers. MR controllers are not supported by SSA (which is designed for Smart Array controllers).
Instead, use the HPE MR Storage Administrator (MRSA) or UEFI-based tools.
Common Causes are as follows:
- Tool Incompatibility: SSA or other Smart Array tools won't detect MR controllers.
- Firmware/BIOS Settings: Controller not enabled in UEFI System Utilities, or outdated firmware.
- Hardware Issues: Loose connections, faulty controller, or unsupported drive configurations.
- iLO Visibility: Controller shows in iLO but not in OS/boot tools due to driver mismatches.
- New System Setup: Default configurations may require initialization.
Please try the following steps for troubleshooting.
- Check iLO for Hardware:
Log into iLO web interface.
Go to Information > System Information > Device Inventory.
Verify MR controller (e.g., MR216i-p) is listed. If not, reseat controller (power off, unplug, reinsert). - Enable Controller in UEFI:
Reboot, press F9 for UEFI System Utilities.
Navigate to System Configuration > Embedded RAID or Storage > Controller Configuration.
Ensure controller is enabled; initialize logical volume (e.g., RAID 0/1). Save and reboot. - Update Firmware/Drivers:
Download latest Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) from HPE Support.
Update BIOS, iLO, and MR controller firmware.
Install MR drivers for your OS (from HPE Support). - Use Correct Tool:
Avoid Smart Storage Administrator (SSA); MR controllers aren't supported.
Download HPE MR Storage Administrator (MR SA) or Broadcom MegaRAID Storage Manager.
Configure RAID via MR SA or UEFI. - Check Logs and Test:
Review iLO Integrated Management Log (IML) for errors.
Test with single drive in non-RAID mode via UEFI.
Run diagnostics from F10 (Intelligent Provisioning) or iLO.

Re: hlep me please
Hi @Nouvong1987 ,
If your HPE ProLiant DL320 Gen11 server is showing "No controller found" when attempting to configure storage, it usually indicates a problem with the storage controller or its configuration. Here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:
- Ensure the Storage Controller is Installed: Confirm whether the server has a storage controller installed. Many servers come with optional RAID controllers (e.g., HPE Smart Array controllers). If your server doesn’t have one installed, you’ll need to add one to manage RAID and storage.
- Firmware or Driver Issues: Update the firmware for the MR controller. Please find the latest firmware link here
- BIOS/UEFI Settings:
Check the BIOS/UEFI configuration to ensure the controller is enabled.
Check if the storage controller is enabled in the BIOS/UEFI settings.
Navigate to the storage configuration section and ensure the controller is detected and enabled.
Ensure that the BIOS/UEFI and storage controller firmware are up-to-date. Outdated firmware can cause detection issues - Controller and Drive Compatibility: Verify that the installed drives are compatible with the storage controller. Some controllers might not support certain drive types (e.g., SATA vs. SAS).
- Run HPE Diagnostics
Use Intelligent Provisioning: Boot into HPE Intelligent Provisioning (press F10 during boot) and check if the storage controller is recognized.
Run Hardware Diagnostics: Use HPE tools such as Insight Diagnostics or Smart Storage Administrator to troubleshoot and identify hardware issues.
