Hi
I have a DL 20 gen 9 server. I have configured ILO with a static address. I cannot see it in the Network on my Windows machine. How to see it ? I would like also to use Remote Desktop to manage it.
Regards.

Re: How to configure ILO
Did you configure ILO to use a shared network interface or dedicated?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to configure ILO
Hello Thorsten,
i have configured ILO with a shared network interface because there is no dedicated ILO port on this server.
Regards.

Re: How to configure ILO
AFAIR you cannot contact ILO via network from the local machine if using a shared network (not via the same interface). Does it work from from a different PC?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to configure ILO
The DL20 has 2 NIC ports, iLO is shared on port 1. Becasue of the shared port you cannot access the iLO from the host OS and must connect to iLO from a different computer. You also need to make sure you have the proper information setup in iLO for static address. Was it working using DHCP and stopped when you changed to static?

Re: How to configure ILO
I have changed the cable to connect to port 1. I cannot see the server on my Windows network. I have never used DHCP and I am using static address. I have double checked the information for IP static address. I would like to connect to the server using Remote desktop connection form my windows machine but I cannot, there is a message saying it cannot reach the IP address of the server. I would like to connect using the remote desktop connection.

This has nothing to do with ILO. You need to point to the windows OS IP address.
For ILO access you need to use a browser and oint to the ILO address.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to configure ILO
That is my mistake I thought ILO had to do with windows IP address..
How can I configure network setting on the server to be able to "see" the server on a windows network ? My goal is to be able to connect to the server and use remote desktop to use the server as if it was local.

Re: How to configure ILO
Just setup an IP address for the windows OS, it must be different to the ILO address.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Solutiongoogle will help you to find a how-to to set the ip address.
but you cannot use windows remote desktop (unless you do some modifications to linux), you need something different, e.g. mobaxterm ...
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

I have set up static address. But the server is set up also on the same IP address for ILO. Is that a problem ?

Re: How to configure ILO
Duplicated IP addresses are always a problem.
The IP for the OS and for ILO MUST be different.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to configure ILO
Better to have ILO for monitoring hardware, alerts, remote console, virtual media ... just assign a different IP address.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Do you have a DHCP server?
If not, use a static IP address.
Hope this helps!

Torsten.

Re: How to configure ILO
There is a DHCP server. I have set up ILO for use the DHCP server.
On the other hand, I can ping the linux server (I have configured the network) but I cannot "see" it on the windows network.
I have downloaded mobaxterm but i don't know how to open a new session with the linux server.

Re: How to configure ILO
So you should now be able to access ILO via browser using the ILO network name.
You cannot "see" the server from windows because the server probably does not provide any windows related services.
If starting mobaxterm, connect to the server like
> ssh myusername@myserver
and you get a shell and can run even graphical applications (test with "xclock" for example).
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

I have typed the followin command : ssh root@serv-linux1
root is the name of the user Adminstrator of Linux
serv-linux1 is the name of the linux server
he asked three time for the password, I type it, but he do not recognize it. See below :
[christian.pitet.PC-Pitet-HP] ➤ ssh root@serv-linux1

Re: How to configure ILO
Depending on your security settings root login from remote may be not allowed.
Logon as a "normal" user and do "su" or configure your system to allow this connection.

Hope this helps!
