How to migrate array from H240AR to B140i?

Hi, I have a Proliant DL360 Gen9 and have H240AR configured with 2 arrays. One is 3 SSD RAID5, another is 5 HDD RAID5.

Recently I bought the 2SFF Expansion kit, and I'd like to move my SSD array to this, since the expansion kit can only connect to the B140i.

But when I take off all 3 SSDs and plug 2 of them into expansion kit, then power on and runs HP SSA, it shows me H240AR have 3 drives missing and B140i have 2 unattached drives. and I think it should be a RAID 5 array with degraded warning -- missing one drive.

What should I do now to migrate this RAID 5 array from H240AR to B140i?

(P.S. I know it's not a good choice using SSD for RAID 5, but my workflow needed it, so backup all data and rebuild it to RAID 1 is not solution for me. And due to the expansion kit are only have 2 drive bays, I also ordered a USB to SATA power connector so it can get porwer form internal USB 3.0 port and a SFF-8087 to SATA data cable to connect it on the borad's SAS port, so the Drive 3 can be attached, just no drive bay for it. These kits are currntly shipping on the road, so I can only attach 2 drives now, but as RAID5 allows 1 drive fail, I think it should be detected now and sadly it's not.)

Hi,

what Drive Type is the SSD?

The B240i only supports SATA Drive, the H240 SAS & SATA.

O.K.

The B240i has an HBA and a Raid Mode, have you checked if the Setting is right?
Enabling embedded chipset SATA controller support (hpe.com)

Boot Mode = UEFI & Smart Raid = Enable

Re: How to migrate array from H240AR to B140i?

Of cource I've switched to RAID mode in BIOS, I said currently is shows "2 unattached drives", and this message absolutely can only shown in RAID mode, there's no "attach" option in HBA mode.

BTW, there's another strange thing, I can't change the cache size of B140i, the default setting is 64MB, whatever I tried to change it to 0MB or 128MB, it returns "an unknown error occurred".

Hi,

Thank you for the Post.

> Would request to take Back up and clear the existing Configuration.

> Then install the Drives as required (If already installed proceed next)

> Udpate the Firwmare and or Driver.
> Use offline SSA (Try using the latest) to Create Logical Drives and to set the Cache.

Hope this help!

Thank you
