Hello, check out the following links for BIOS and iLO:

RAID requires more than one disk.
There are dozens of links on the Internet discussing RAID. Search and read.

  • (RAID 0 - Pointless. One disk, no protection.)
  • RAID 1 - two disks (a pair)
  • RAID 5 - three or more
  • RAID 10 - multiple of two disks (multiple pair)

Re: How to upgrade BIOS and iLO on DL380p Gen 8

Hello,

You may download the System ROMPaq Firmware Upgrade for HP ProLiant DL380p Gen8 server and refer to tab 'Installation Instruction' for steps to install it. You may following the instructions if there is no operating system installed on the server yet. For HPE USB Key Utility for Windows to create a bootable USB, you may click here to download it.

If an operating system has been installed, then download the BIOS update for the relevant operating system from this link and install it.

iLO 4 is the generation of iLO for Gen8 and Gen9 servers. Download the iLO firmware from this link.

Once downloaded, extract the package to a folder and obtain the iLO firmware image file. For instructions, please click here.

You can update the firmware from the iLO web interface.

To install it from the iLO web interface, if you have configured iLO and is reachable over the network, then open a browser and browser to the iLO IP address or hostname and login.

Once logged in, follow the step detailed in the section "Updating iLO or server firmware by using the iLO web interface" of the iLO 4 user guide for instructions.

NOTE: that the extracted firmware image file should be stored locally on the system from which the iLO web interface is initiated or to a shared network folder accessible from the local system and to the server's iLO as well.

If the iLO has not been configured to be reachable over the network, then you may configure the iLO networking by using the iLO RBSU. To do so, restart or power on the server and press F8 during POST prompt display to launch iLO RBSU. Use the arrow key to reach the Network menu and either set static IP or DHCP configuration and DNS configuration. Connect the iLO port at the rear of the server to the network. You may refer to item 9, "iLO connector", of the "Rear panel components", on page 95 of the HPE ProLiant DL380p Gen8 Server Maintenance and Service Guide for the location of the dedicated iLO network port connector. Once configured and reachable you may use the iLO web interface to update the firmware as mentioned above.

If the opearating system has been installed on the server,

a. Then download and install the iLO 4 Channel Interface Driver for Windows and the iLO 4 Management Controller Driver Package for Windows depending on the Windows Server Operating System installed in the server. Click here to access the download page for Microsoft. For other operating system, choose them from the dropdown menu under option "Operating Environment Type" to obtain the iLO 4 channel interface driver for the relevant operating system.

b. Once the above have been installed and the server restarted as required for the software to take effect, download and install the firmware from this link

To configure RAID, you will need two or more hard drives. With one hard drive no hardware redundancy can be achieved. To create RAID array, install hard drives of the same type in an array, i.e. either SAS drives or SATA drives. Do not mix drive types. For instance, do not mix SAS and SATA drives to be part of the same array, it would not be possible to do so. The RAID array's capacity and transfer speed is determined by the smallest capacity and transfer speed installed drive in that array. Hence, it is recommended to install same capacity and transfer rate capacity drives and make a RAID array out of them.

When the server POSTs, you can use either one of the following options to configure a RAID array:

a. Press F5 to Launch HPE Smart Storage Administrator from Intelligent Provisioning directly and configure the array.

b. Press F10 to launch Intelligent Provisioning and select HPE Smart Storage Administrator and configure the array.

c. After the 'F8' prompt to launch iLO RBSU has completed and when the prompt to press 'F8' to launch Option ROM Configuration for Arrays Utility (ORCA), then press 'F8' to launch it. Use the onscreen instructions to create a RAID array.

Regards,
