HP management agents on ESX 3.5 U3

Hi!

I upgraded to 8.1.1 agents on esx 3.5 U3 server...

Now I have a problem connecting it back to HP SIM...

My snmp config is like this:

# Following entries were added by HP Insight Management Agents at
# Fri Feb 6 11:38:55 CET 2009
dlmod cmaX /usr/lib/libcmaX.so
rwcommunity public 127.0.0.1
rocommunity public 127.0.0.1
rwcommunity public 192.168.1.183
rocommunity public
trapcommunity public
trapsink 192.168.1.183 public
syscontact mail@mail.com
syslocation room1 (edit snmpd.conf)

# ---------------------- END --------------------
# Sample snmpd.conf containing VMware MIB module entries.

# This is a simple snmpd.conf that may help you test SNMP.
# It is not recommended for production use. Consult the
# snmpd.conf(5) man pages to set up a secure installation.

# VMware MIB modules. To enable/disable VMware MIB items
# add/remove the following entries.
dlmod SNMPESX /usr/lib/vmware/snmp/libSNMPESX.so

192.168.1.183 is my HP SIM server...

Before it worked like charm but now situation is like this:

If I unplug power supply, managment page reacts OK and on HP SIM I get Health Status warning... But I DON`T get EventStatus (ES) warning, so I do not recive mail which is not good...

Any idea?

Thanks!

Re: HP management agents on ESX 3.5 U3

You may also want to consider applying Update 4 which includes a patch for the zombie processes that pretty much made my BL465c hosts inoperable (see KB link below). I opened a call with HP's VMware support and it was necessary to reboot the hosts first to even manage them from the COS. Once I had one functioning host, I was able to perform a vMotion of the VMs and reboot the other hosts with no downtime to my production VMs.

Re: HP management agents on ESX 3.5 U3

All you need to do is to reconfigure SNMP.
try:

#hpsnmpconfig

Once you type that you are going to get a buch of options to configure it. Once you get to

Enter SNMP trap destination IP or DNS name:

You need to type the the SIM IP Address. Check the txt file attached on a possible configuration that works.

Snmp already configured, I attached snmp.conf.
When i send test trap via SMH it work fine.
