HP ProLiant DL380 G7 - Memory upgrade issue

I have fully populated all 18 memory slots in my DL380 G7 with 8GB 2RX4 PC3-10600R-9 (RDIMMs).

On boot, the system complains that there are no installed memory in Processor 1 dimm slots 7,8,9 and in Processor 2 dimm slots 1,2,3.

This seems like a configuration issue to me.  Do I need to change something in the bios ?

Thanks.

Re: Query: HP ProLiant DL380 G7 - Memory upgrade issue

OK.  I'm not understanding something.  Looked at the manual for RDIMM upgrades to DL380 G7.  It only showed 16GB RDIMMS, leaving some slots empty for a total of 196GB.

I have (18) 8GB 2Rx4 PC3L-10600R-09 sticks of memory.   I first loaded them into all 18 slots.  No joy.   Read manual.  Left slots open as per manual (6 sticks unused).  No Joy.  pulled all sticks.  Put new sticks into the white slots (where my 4GB's were) and it booted no error for a total of 48GB of ram..

I would like to use as many of the "new" sticks to get as much memory as possilbe.  One guide I saw said you maxed RDIMM's out at 144GB.   Not sure why guides are different.

any help greatly appreciated.

Re: Query: HP ProLiant DL380 G7 - Memory upgrade issue

I found a video on YouTube that clarified all my questions.

Thanks for all the links to the HP memory guide.    To be quite frank, I found quite a few inconsistencies in the HP documentation.

thanks for all the help.

Good day!

Good day!

I do not have any Video links. But, I can help with general info for you. It's possible that the issue you're facing with your HPE ProLiant DL380 G7 server is related to the memory configuration. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

>> Ensure that the memory modules you have installed are compatible with your server. The HPE ProLiant DL380 G7 has specific memory requirements. Make sure the memory modules you're using match the server's specifications in terms of type, speed, and capacity.

>> Sometimes, memory modules can become partially dislodged during installation. Power down the server, unplug it, and then carefully reseat the memory modules in the correct slots. Make sure they are firmly and properly seated in their slots.

>> The DL380 G7 server has specific guidelines for populating memory slots when using different memory capacities and ranks. Consult the server's documentation for guidance on how to populate memory slots correctly based on your memory modules.

>> You may need to adjust BIOS settings to recognize the new memory configuration correctly. To access the BIOS, reboot the server and press the appropriate key (usually F9 or F10) during the boot process. Inside the BIOS, look for memory-related settings and ensure they are set correctly.

>> Outdated firmware or BIOS can sometimes lead to memory recognition issues. Check if there are updates available for your server's firmware and BIOS. If updates are available, apply them and see if the issue is resolved.

>> If you're still experiencing problems, it's a good idea to test each memory module individually to identify any faulty modules. This can help you isolate the problematic module that may be causing the issue.

>> If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it's a good idea to reach out to HPE support for further assistance.

Remember that working on a server's hardware and BIOS settings can be sensitive, and any changes should be made with caution. If you're unsure about any step, it's best to consult the server's documentation or seek assistance from a qualified technician to avoid potential damage to your server.

These are my opinions so use it at your own risk.
