HP Proliant Gen8 DL380p Server with Windows 2012 R2 OS
I initiated Windows Update and once completed the server was required to be rebooted. After the reboot, Windows Boot Manager displayed an error;
"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer"
It states the error is possibly faulty hardware such as a hard drive and showed the following information;
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.
After pressing enter, the HP Proliant boot screen appeared with the Proliant System BIOS - P70 (03/01/2013) and 64 GB installed. The 2 Processors were detected with 12 total cores enabled. Other devices posted successfully. At the bottom of the screen iLO 4 IP: Unknown appeared with a status code: 5300.
The next screen appears with Preparing Automatic Repairs and Loading files.... Once complete, Windows starts to boot with the blue Windows logo appearing. After about a minute, the next screen appears stating;
Your PC ran into a problem and need to restart. We're just collecting info, and then we'll restart for you. A message below states if you would like to know more search online for error: PROCESS1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED
It seems like Windows Update broke a device driver. Has anyone run across this problem with recent Windows Update installs?

Re: HP Proliant Gen8 DL380p Server with Windows 2012 R2 OS
Hi,
Thank you for the Post, we would request you to follow the below :
1) Startup repair.
2) Run System restore
3) Check disk in Windows Recovery mode.
To do this, follow these steps:
a) Open Command prompt from Windows Recovery Mode
b) Type C: and press enter. On C:\ prompt type chkdsk /r and press enter.
4) Restore BIOS to default
5) Try updating the BIOS, iLO and Controller Firmware on the Server and check (you may use SPP for that : SPP Gen8.1 : https://techlibrary.hpe.com/us/en/enterprise/servers/products/service_pack/spp/index.aspx?version=Gen8.1)

If yes, you can install it manually by

Re: HP Proliant Gen8 DL380p Server with Windows 2012 R2 OS
A drive in the RAID array crashed. I replaced the drive and successfully rebuild the RAID array. The OS I believe needs to be recovered. I mounted the OS volume and it has one file, recovery.txt, visible. The D:\DATA volume looks complete with all the expected data files.
I eventually need 2016 Server OS installed on this server, but was trying to recovery the existing 2012 R2 Server OS in order to properly migrate it.
I need technical support help! What is the best way to move forward?
