HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Hi,
We are encountering this error for the past 3 days and it's always recurring.
This is a new installation and we updated the controller firmware but still the problem occurs.
Here is the setup.
DL380 G7 with embedded P410i controller, we added P411/1GB FBWC 2 external SAS for D2700 Disk Enclosure connectivity.
D2700 has 24 x 300GB SAS disk and at first we created arrays but after a night of system running, when we check the controller in the morning the above error shows up.
It's been happening for 3 days.
Any idea or solution for those who encounter the same error?
Thanks

Re: HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Hi Ragie,
You may run the Array Diagnostics Utility (ADU) report to check if there are any issues with the controller cache module or the FBWC module.

Re: HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Hi All,
Array Diagnostic Utility shows no error or problems on the controller.
We already updated the controller firmware and also on the D2700 disk enclosure but still when we check the server status in the morning "controller lockup error" shows.
We will try to replace the P411 controller with a new one and see if the issue will still occur.

Re: HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Hi Ragie,
You may attempt clearing the IML logs, update the BIOS and iLO firmware restart the server and update the management agents and check if the issue is resolved before attempting to replace the controller.

Vijayasarathy

Re: HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Hi Vijayasarathy,
I have test the controller on another server and it works fine. It doesn't experience a controller lockup for a night of system running.
I will try to follow your recommendation and see if it will resolve the issue.

Re: HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Probably a bad P410i controller, or overheating situation! Check the slot location and power-mode in bios (fan Performance)

Re: HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Hi Guys,
I have followed all your recommendation like updating the bios and ilo firmware, except for clearing the IML logs.
Still the issue occurs.
Next thing i will try is to:
1. Clear IML logs as advised by Vijayasarathy
2. Check the slot location and power-mode in bios (fan Performance) as advised by Sbrown
I am very confused why the controller is working fine on another server.

Re: HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Hello,
Check the temperature of your P411 if it exceeds the limit.
Otherwise, i think you have no choice to replace the mother board.

Re: HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Hi,
Upon my observation the controller will encounter a lockup error when the data that we transfer is big.
5-10GB of data is okay but above that the controller and disks will become unavailable and when i check it via Smart Storage Storage the controller is in lockup state.

Re: HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Would you plase double check the firmware revisions installed?
P411 - version 6.60
D2700 - version 0149
http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/readIndex?sp4ts.oid=4017900&swLangOid=8&swEnvOid=4064
It's IMHO worth to check the disk firmware too.
Has the smart array controller a cache module installed?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HP Smart Array P411/1GB FBWC - Controller Lockup Error (code 3h)
Firmware version is the same as you have posted above.
Yes, there is a 1GB cache installed on the controller.
