HPE Proliant DL20 Gen10 fans noise
I bought HPE Proliant DL20 Gen10 server for FreeBSD 12.2R
Generally It works fine, but it's very loud
Fans speed does not drop below 30-40% when working with FreeBSD
I found a similar issue - https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-a00083154en_us, but this solution contains a link to Agentless Management Service for Red Hat
Is there a solution for the problem with fans noise for FreeBSD?

Re: HPE Proliant DL20 Gen10 fans noise
Follow these,
In the iLO web interface, navigate to the Information > System Information page.
Click the Fans tab.
Verify the fan status and fan speed.Fan speeds greater than 60% are expected to be loud.
If the fan is running at a higher speed than expected
if still issue is there then please logs a support case with HPE to check and assist further.

Re: HPE Proliant DL20 Gen10 fans noise
Server information
Temperatures
If I enable HPE Smart Array S100i SR Gen10, then fans work quiet
Else, when I disable the Smart Array, fans work loudly
Another problem appeared, I create logical drive in the Smart Array
but Windows Server 2019 setup no hard drives found (when I disable the Smart Array, hard drives work fine)
Anyway, I don't need RAID, I need quiet server and I need any solution for this

if you don't need fault tollerance, you can make Raid 0

Re: HPE Proliant DL20 Gen10 fans noise
Google Translated:
The noise stopped completely or only stopped after booting the operating system.
In my case I updated but it continues to make a lot of noise and only for minutes after booting the OS
When I enter the BIOS or Intelegen Provi the noise does not stop.
Does anyone have a solution?

Re: HPE Proliant DL20 Gen10 fans noise
Hi,
I have the same problem, I can only run the fan with optimized cooling and don't have the possibility to lower the fan speed below 42%, they are very noisy. Did someone find a fix yet ?
My system Rom version is U60 v1.72 (04/20/2023).
BTW, what is the difference between the "System ROM Flash Binary " and "ROM Flash Firmware Package" ? Both are for Bios or anyone of them is for iLo ?

Re: HPE Proliant DL20 Gen10 fans noise
For my HPE DL20 Gen 11 it was as follows
1. Install the ILO channel driver if you havent: iLO 5 Channel Interface Driver for Microsoft Windows Server 2022 | HPE Support
2. Install the Agentless management service: HPE Gen11 Agentless Management Service for Microsoft Windows x64 | HPE Support
Immediately Fans went from 46% to 6% in ILO -> Power -> Fans

Re: HPE Proliant DL20 Gen10 fans noise
1 - try updating the ILO to at least 3.06
2 - are you using non HP drives, I had endless fan fun until I found drives that had the right smart temp_c field. If the controller doesn't see the temperature in smart, it throws a wobbly and Fan3 goes to takeoff speed. HOWEVER, fan1 and fan2 are just ticking over.
3 - I gave up on freebsd on my DL20, since it runs a tv tuner and linux, but the ml30 is just fin with freebsd 14 and the fans are not painful at all. Maybe if I can get another one, I'll try again.
