IDE Hard Drive
Can I add an IDE hard drive as a secondary storage device. I have a scsi raid controller already in place as the boot bevice. I just want to add the drive as a mass storage for non important data. I think someone tried to do this before and the server was attemptint to boot off the new ide drive. Thanks in advance.

Re: IDE Hard Drive
Marc:
What kind of server is this? Your server may or may not support IDE drives other than CD ROM, or in a worse case, the IDE drive will become the primary boot. IDE Drives, depending on the architecture of the system, will take boot preference over the SCSI channels.
Alternatively, can you install another SCSI drive (room in the server, too expensive, etc.)? Why an IDE drive over SCSI?

Re: IDE Hard Drive
It is an ML350. We just want to use the drive to hold the sql backup dumps that run nightly, and then back them up to tape. THis drive will not be mission critical.
Thanks

Re: IDE Hard Drive
According to the documentation for a ML350, IDE Hard Drives are not supported... but that does not mean you can't try. Try jumpering the HDD in "cable select" mode.
Good luck. -John
