Installing Memory DIMMs in a DL180G6

Hi,

We have a DL180 G6 with 1 CPU and 3x2Gb Ram. We recently acquired a second CPU and 3x4Gb ram. What would be the best set up for DIMM slots?

First tests led to no booting. Test cases:

- 2 CPUs + 3x2GB ram + 3x4Gb Ram --> No Boot
- 2 CPUs + 3x2GB ram --> Boot OK (3 sticks in P1 slots)
- 2 CPUs + 3x4GB ram --> Boot OK (3 sticks in P1 slots)

As soon as I put ram sticks in both slot groups boot fails.

P/n for 2Gb sticks: 500209-061
Label for 2Gb sticks: 2Gb 2Rx8 PC3-10600E-9-10-E0

P/n for 4Gb sticks: 500203-061
Label for 4Gb sticks: 4Gb 2Rx4 PC3-10600R-9-10-E1

Hi,

I found that I was trying to mix PC3-10600E (unbuffered) and PC3-10600R (Registered) ram. Can this be the problem?

Hi Eric,

You can't mix RDIMMS and UDIMMS in the same server.

See the Quickspecs for supported memory configurations and use the memory configuration tool.

Yes, a very big problem, you can't mix memory types.
