Installing P212 to DL160 G6
I’m thinking to get Smart Array P212 PCI-e Controller to my ProLiant DL160 G6 server to add an external SAS port to connect to a tape drive.
The server already has P410 controller and an extra NIC NC360T.
P410 is connected to the x4 storage card slot located in the center of mobo.
NC360T is inserted x16 slot in the PCI cage.
I see two more x4 PCI-e slots on the board.
HP doesn’t make any riser cards for these slots.
DL160 G6 Server Maintenance Guide has description that only x16 and the slot for the storage controller support a riser.
My question is if it’s feasible to use any riser to connect P212. I found a PCI-e x4 riser card with flexible 3” cable (P/N: PE-FLEX4-G2) at orbitmicro.com
Obviously there is a space issue. I have to sacrifice memory slots. Also the air baffle has to be gone.
Are there any concerns I have to think about in advance?
