Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

When i startt my Gen 8 and press F10 (or F5) to access harddrive configuration the IP software crashes like this image:

I have tried to install the IP software using this link .

The server has ILO 2.77 and latest available bios upgrade.

how to get the IP working so i can install some os?

Have you verified the ISO for the IP ?
Maybe it was corrupted before the update.

Also Gen8 have a notorious NAND Flash corruption problem.
You can try to reformat the NAND and then to install the IP (with verified shasum of the ISO):

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

The ILO status is a green check mark on the ilo web page.

The link says something about and xml-file, but not how to use it to force a format.

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

The web UI doesn't allow force format.
You have to use any of the other methods.
Both remote methods (3 & 4) require a windows workstation and HPQLOCFG/powershell .

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

Did the remote format via powershell at this computer.

reinstalled the ILO firmware again.

Intelligent provisioning loads to 100% and then crashes..

I recorded the start up procedure until the crash in an .ILO file located here:

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

Once you format the nand, you need to use the Intelligent Provisioning Recovery media to reinstall it.

Did you reinstall the IP or just tried to load it ?

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

I uploaded it thru the web-page -> Firmware (the bin-file).

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

You need to boot the IP (Intelligent Provisioning) recovery media via DVD or by iLO after completing the NAND format (and verifying the success of the operation).
The media will reinstall IP and on the next power cycle you can use F10 (or whatever key it is) to enter into IP.

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

At first i thought the -bin-firmware was that.

I have used RUFUS to "burn" the iso to an usb drive (no cd burner/reader).

But how do i get the gen8 to boot from the internal usb? i press F11, and then 3 in the options, but it seems to boot the installed os of either the sd-card or the SSD-drive attached to that port that is not the SATA-drives.

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

Usually RUFUS causes more problems than solving them. You can use HPE's utility: https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docLocale=en_US&docId=c05147777&sfdcIFrameOrigin=null

Or you can boot the ISO by using iLO's Virtual DVD function.

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

Ran the recovery media after i found the external dvd-writer.

Installer worked according to the screen.

Now ILO shows degraded, so i tried to install latest firmware, still shows degraded.

If i check the boot screen this show

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

So you definitely have a iLO NAND problem.
Try to follow the article and:
- Update iLO to 2.78
- Power off and detach any power cables
- Power on and reset the NAND again

If the iLO health is green, you could disable the AHS log and leave it as is (no IP) or you can try to boot the IP and hope that this time iLO health will remain OK.

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

I have now taken the time to try this, time and again.

I have managed to install iLO 2.79 (the current latest).

I have put in a brand new SD card in the internal slot, a brand new USB key in the internal usb slot

Cannot get IP installed, if i run the ISO over the console app, it crashes after the first white screen where you select to install it where it states you need to load the kernel.

I have tried to put the IP iso on a usb key, and that wont boot at all

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

The only way to fix it is to replace that NAND chip (which in some contries is more expensive than a new motherboard).

So , I guess you reformated the NAND again, right ? Then, try disabling the AHS log (ilo will restart) and then wipe the AHS logs.
Afterwards, give one last try and if it doesn't work - you have to live with it or replace the chip/motherboard .

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

Cant find the logging option in the bios settings.

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

I do it from the ilo web UI.

Edit: I forgot to mention that when AHS logging is disabled DISK Firmware cannot be updated (it just never changes version)

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

Found and disabled, made no change in the degraded message, probably wouldnt.

Now im trying to install proxmox via the virtual cd-rom over the super slow integrated remote console.

Re: Intelligent provissioning - kernel panic - G8

- Didable AHS logging (requires iLO restart)
- Clear AHS
- Disconnect Power (either physical or via ilorest method)
- Reset the NAND
- Decide if you wish to flash the IP or not
