is it possible to expand arrays?
DL380 g9 smart array P440ar if i do a raid 10 with 4 hdd, is it possible to add another 2 or 4 disks later without losing the data?
the server has 12 bays but backplane for only 4
it's nonsense, to use the other 8 bays, I have to throw out the 4 backplane and buy 12 backplane for at least $ 200

Re: is it possible to expand arrays?
Hello,
Please find the below document for array expansion
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=sf000052332en_us&docLocale=en_US
Refer to Smart storage administrator user guide for more information
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c03909334
Dl380 Gen9 has multiple backplane options
Refer quickspecs : https://www.hpe.com/psnow/doc/c04346247
The backplane which you are using right now depends on the configuration you have requested while ordering the server.
Thanks,
TAM

Re: is it possible to expand arrays?
hi, thanks for the reply
i bought the used server, but all the ones i saw for sale had 12 bays and 4 backplane bays.
the 12 bay backplane i found for sale at $ 200
it's not a problem, I solved it in a homely way,
for $ 50 I bought a 4 bay backplane that came with the signal cable, power cable and a 10 pin male / female cable + 4 more connectors, modified the two power cables and turned the server into 8 working bays.
now i connect 6 hdd sas of 4tb in raid 10
I have 12tb available, I don't think I need to increase the space anymore.
another question, is it better to use 3 hdd per backplane, port, or 4 + 2?
(P440ar controller port 1 = 3 hdd, port 2 = 3hdd)
(P440ar controller port 1 = 4 hdd, port 2 = 2hdd)
thanks for your attention

Re: is it possible to expand arrays?
Hello,
One single port of the controller supports 4 drives without the need for an Expander.. P440ar is a 2-port controller which will support 8 drives. It is upto you how many bays you want to occupy depending upon the backplane. there are different backplanes available, 2SFF, 8SFF, 4LFF etc. Have shared the quickspecs earlier.
You can refer to the service and maintenance guide for more information
