Re: Is my Smart Array Embedded P420i dead?
Hi,
if the Array Controller has a Write Cache Modul, try to reseat the Modul or remove completely.
Search for: fbwc-modul
If this does not help (but most time this is the Issue), or you have no Write Cache, try to reseat the Array Controller.
If this also does not help, try to do a Firmware Update.
And finally, the P420i is dead and you have to replace it.

Re: Is my Smart Array Embedded P420i dead?
I can try that but I also want to add that the P420i IS NOT detected by ssacli or Smart Storage Administrator or Intelligent Provisioning
... try to reseat the Array Controller.
how can I reseat this controller? This is P420i (the " i " stands for "integrated")

Re: Is my Smart Array Embedded P420i dead?
Hello @bkrg3
It looks like your HP DL360p G8's Smart Array P420i controller is having issues. This error can happen due to a few things like a loose connection, outdated firmware, or a hardware fault.
To fix it:
- Start by checking all the cables and making sure the controller is securely seated.
- Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve issues like this.
- If that doesn’t help, try reseating the controller or clearing the NVRAM in the BIOS.
If the problem persists, the controller might need to be replaced. If you have important data on the drives, consider backing it up or consulting a professional.
waiting your feedback

Re: Is my Smart Array Embedded P420i dead?
Hello @bkrg3 again
the HP DL380P GEN8 Maximum Internal Storage Hot Plug SFF SAS 50.0TB = 25 x 2TB (with optional SFF drive cage)
Hot Plug LFF SAS 96.0TB =12 x 8TB (with optional LFF drive cage)
is your server SSF or LFF ?

Re: Is my Smart Array Embedded P420i dead?
Hello,
The POST screen shared shows that the two following components experienced a failure:
a. Power supply in Bay2
b. HP Smart Array P420i Controller
For the first component, please reseat it and check if the issue is resolved. If not, then swap a known working power supply in this slot to isolate between the power supply or the Bay.
For the second component, the message indicates a failure of the HP Smart Array P420i Controller. You may attempt updating its firmware.
Click here to download the firmware. Once downloaded extract it to a folder.
Download the "Gen8 Service Pack for ProLiant Version Gen8.1". Copy the file having extention ".firmware.bin.fw" to the SPP image, into the directory \SPP20xxxxx\hp\swpackages.
Once this SPP image is ready, boot the server with this SPP image, locate Start.html which is found in the root of the ISO, open the html file in a supported browser and follow the instructions on the screen.
If the update is successful and the controller is detected, then the issue is resolved.
If the update is not successful, then ensure that the SPP image is set correctly.
If the update fails even after an verified image is used, and there are errors while firmware update is in progress, then the embedded HP Smart Array P420i controller is corrupted and it needs to be replaced. As it is embedded, and if you desire to use only this embedded controller, then replace the system board. If you are not particular about this embedded controller, then you may install any from those listed under section "Additional Options > HP Storage Controllers" on page 41 of the HPE ProLiant DL360p Gen8 Server's QuickSpecs.
