Issue with installing HP Insight Manager WBEM Providers on DL160se G^
Trying to use HPSMH but none of the features show up.
Get the following message....
"Install the latest version of HP Insight Management WBEM Providers and/or HP Insight management Agents from HP Service Pack for ProLiant (HP SPP)"
fair enough.
Downloaded the latest version of HP SPP. Extracted it and found the related CP for HP Insight Management WBEM Providers which is cp020347.
Tried to install it and it gave the followign error:
"The installation procedure did not complete successfully. An error occurred during the setup process. You may look at the setup log file for more details if desired. Press the 'Close' button to exit Setup"
Fair enough. Found the logs under C:\cpqsystem\log\cpqsetp.txt file.
This is what it said about the aborted install...
'Executing MSI....Failed!
The installation procedure did not complete successfully. An error occurred during the setup process"
F***ing BRILLIANT !!!
Kudos to the HP engineers for writing up such a brilliant error checking log.
In the meantime I have an HPSMH that is practically useless to me.
Anyoen have any ideas on how to get teh WBEM providers to install correctly?
BTW, i am trying to install version 9.5.0.0 which is the latest on the support site.
Server is a DL160se G6 server.

Re: Issue with installing HP Insight Manager WBEM Providers on DL160se G^
I would use the SPP and run "hpsum" from it. Select/deselct the components you want to install. Maybe you missed a dependency?
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Issue with installing HP Insight Manager WBEM Providers on DL160se G^
Same problem here. I am running two different ML350p Gen8 with Windows 2008 R2 SP1.
On both machines I can install the WBEM providers version 9.4.0.0 but I cannot install version 9.5.0.0.
I tried the following approaches:
- downloaded cp020347 and manual installation
- downloaded cp020347, extracted the contents and manual installation
- Installation via Version Control Agent and local Version Control Repository
All approaches failed with the very same error message:
Executing MSI...Failed!
Any ideas?
Thank you for your help!

Sorry I have to add to my previous post:
I also tried installing 9.4.0.0 and then upgrading to 9.5.0.0 but that failed as well
Thank you!

Thanks Torsten!
Does that mean that the SMH takes data from iLO instead of SNMP / WBEM?

Re: Issue with installing HP Insight Manager WBEM Providers on DL160se G^
Torsten,
thank you for the link! If I understand correctly we would get the full benefit of the new management / monitoring when using HP SIM.
Since we have no HP SIM running (yet) and only rely on the old tradional SMH we would need the WBEM (or SNMP) approach.
Since WBEM is still supported for that server model and the OS I wonder why the install fails.
Thank you,
Hadi

Re: Issue with installing HP Insight Manager WBEM Providers on DL160se G^
AFAIK you should go with agentless management services if you use HP SIM, but use the management agents for SMH. You should not use both. Latest version are here for example:
http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/psi/swdHome/?sp4ts.oid=5449155&spf_p.tpst=swdMain&spf_p.prp_swdMain=wsrp-navigationalState%3DswEnvOID%253D4064%257CswLang%253D%257Caction%253DlistDriver&javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken#Software%20-%20System%20Management
Finally you need to configure the agents for SNMP or WBEM.
http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay?javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.prp_ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c03291634-1%257CdocLocale%253D%257CcalledBy%253D&javax.portlet.tpst=ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01&sp4ts.oid=344313&ac.admitted...

Re: Issue with installing HP Insight Manager WBEM Providers on DL160se G^
Thank you Torsten.
That is very nice - but it does not explain why the WBEM Agent installation fails in the first place. (while an older version 9.4.0.0 installs without any problems)

Yes I am running all the latest Insight Management agents (9.6.0.0) but the latest WBEM agents are still 9.5.0.0 and these do not get installed.
Thank you!

Hmm, the release notes of 9.60 say
IMA 9.50 failed to install/upgrade on Windows 2008 x64 and x86.
Hope this helps!

OK, that give me hope :-)
I'll wait until the 9.60 shows up on the version repository or on the ML350p Gen8 download page.
Thank you!

Re: Issue with installing HP Insight Manager WBEM Providers on DL160se G^
I had same issue with DL360p Gen 8 server and managed to resolve the issue by
- Uninstall Visual c++ 2012 RTM Runtime Library DLLs (X64/release)
- Uninstall "HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server x64 Editions 9.60.0.0"
- Install "HP Insight Management WBEM Providers for Windows Server x64 Editions"
- Install "HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server x64 Editions 9.60.0.0"
Info:
====
Looks like "Visual c++ 2012 RTM Runtime Library DLLs (X64/release)" gets installed with
"HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server x64 Editions Version: 9.60.0.0" and causes HP WBEM provider 9.5.0.0 to fail
I hope it helps.

Jim

Good to know that 2 months later HP still hasn't fixed/patched the WBEM installer to work around that issue.

finally a solution that worked!
I was very annoyed by the fact that I lost WBEM during upgrade of Proliant ML350 G6 from 2008R2 to 2012R2 and started thinking something got seriously broken during upgrade ... then I found this post, worked like a charm! Thanks!

Re: Issue with installing HP Insight Manager WBEM Providers on DL160se G^
Older thread but here is my $.02
Had problem doing this on multiple DL585G2's and determined it was an "order of install" issue meaning something from HP put down a redistributable package that interfered with the WEBM installer. C++ or Visual C++ components were my likely candidates. Uninstalled all HP and MS Redistributable parts and ran WEBM without issue. Installed remainging parts (Win 7 compatability mode on one since my box is unsupported 2012R2) and no issues.

Re: Issue with installing HP Insight Manager WBEM Providers on DL160se G^
Circling back to add to my prior answer. Run the MSI installers for the two MS C++ first via extract then go back and run the original EXE (cp020347.exe). I had multiple failures and it seemed to be the second MS MSI (Visual C++ 2012 RTM Runtime Library DLLs (x64/release)) failing before the WEBM MSI got called. Running the WEBM MSI after the other two does NOT work for me. Additional, must have the HP iLO Management Channel Interface Driver & HP ProLiant iLO 2 Management Controller Driver installed and working before WEBM will install.
Hope this helps. Two hosts down three more to go.

Re: Issue with installing HP Insight Manager WBEM Providers on DL160se G^
Dont forget that you must have installed server feature SNMP, before instaling HPE Insight Management Agents for Windows Server x64 Editions !!!
Without it you can't install it !!!
And with HPE Insight Management Agents for Windows Server x64 Editions automaticaly installs Visual C++........Runtime DLLs....
