Issues with Array created with p212 controller
I have a Prolient DL180 server with a P212 controller. Everything was working fine until 2 days ago when a logical volume failed. When I enter it from the raid utility is says that all the drives are ok. So I need help in recovering the raid array such that I can recover my data. Is there anyone that could assist me with this?
Not sure what failed but I must recover the data in the array

Re: Issues with Array created with p212 controller
Hello Drax,
Looks like the logical drive is disabled.
As the physical drives are showing as OK, you can go to Smart Storage administrator and re-enable the failed logical drive. The Data recovery is not guaranteed, but this is the only step you can perform right now to enable the failed logical drive.
Disclaimer: Data integrity is customer responsibility. HPE recommends to have data backup frequently and before performing any activity so that it can be restored during disaster recovery.
Thanks,
TAM

Re: Issues with Array created with p212 controller
I know that I can do that. I am looking for a non data loss option. How can I recover that logical drive without data loss?
What steps can be used to not lose all my data? More importantly, How do I stop this from happening again? This happened prior and I was told to replace the controller which I did along with the backplane. Now a month later I have the same issue. This time without a backup to restore. Is there another brand of raid controller that can be used? I am losing faith in HP speced parts

Re: Issues with Array created with p212 controller
If I was able to have storage available on another server in my rack is there anyway to copy clone the three phyical drives to that server so that my data would not be lost if I use F2? That way I would have it backed up. and could seek to recover them and reimage them back to the hp server should F2 fail. Is that possible? I am looking for any option.

Re: Issues with Array created with p212 controller
Hello Drax,
As you can see the errors, i would request you to log a case with HPE support for log analysis and the corrective actions can be provided on the basis of that.
Moreover, HPE does not assist in data backup and recovery. HPE always recommends to have the data backed up timely so that it can be restored at the time of disaster recovery.
.
The recommended way to avoid such kind of issues, is to keep the firmware up to date as the newer firmware has fixes and enhancements
Thanks,
TAM

Re: Issues with Array created with p212 controller
Thanks. I will see about logging a case shortly. When I bought the controller I was told that the firmware was up to date. How would I check that? Would the Raid util give me that information? What should the latest firmware for a P212 be? Where can I download it just in case?
Presently the card is still processing errors. The volume a 4TB volume so I am guessing that this will take awhile.
So you kind of seem to indicate that you think that there are issues with the raid card. Are there any other compatible cards that could be used that might be newer and also accomodate larger drives?

Re: Issues with Array created with p212 controller
Hello,
Yes, the array configuration utlitity will give you the controller firmware version.
Also you can check it from iLO.
The latest version for p212 is 6.64
You may refer to server quickspecs to check for the compatible options.
You may google server model + quickspecs and you will get the information.
Thanks,
TAM

Re: Issues with Array created with p212 controller
Does anyone have any suggestions for a non HP Raid controller for a DL180 G2? My firmare is up to date and this is the second major crash in a month. Yes I have regular backups, howver this time there was a failure in the backup path that caused it to not be backed up as often as needed. So given I have already replaced the P212 Raid card with another of like kind and it still craps out, I am looking for options with another raid card. Particularly one that would work with ZFS
