Lost ILO5 password

Lost ILO5 password

I have a DL380 Gen10 with a lost ILO password.  I've tried F9-->System Configuration-->iLO Utility, but it prompts for a username and password.  I have tried the system maintenance switch with no luck.  Is there a System Configuration option that needs to be disabled to overide that setting?

Hello,

You can also refer to this video to reset the iLO password using BIOS.

Video Title:

HPE ProLiant Servers - How to reset the iLO user account password from the iLO Configuration utility in BIOS accessing the server using the iLO remote console.

One possibility is that the iLO may have been previously set to "High Security" mode -- once in said mode, things like disabling the iLO security via the system maintenance switch behave differerently -- for example:

HPE iLO 5 2.72 User Guide -> Using the iLO security features -> System maintenance switch

When iLO is configured to use the High Security, FIPS, or CNSA security state:

  • User name and password restrictions for iLO RESTful API and RIBCL commands executed from the host system are enforced.
  • The system maintenance switch setting to bypass iLO security does not disable the password requirement for logging in to iLO.

I've not been able to locate a documented process for reverting "High Security" mode, but a colleague says to try this method, which is purported to work (I've not tried it myself):

  • power off server
  • remove power cords from power supplies
  • remove CMOS battery
  • wait for 7-10 minutes
  • with the CMOS battery still removed, reconnect power cords and then power on server
  • access iLO and see if you can login to the Administrator account using the default password (located on the serial number label or the pull-out tag label)
  • power off server
  • remove power cords from power supplies
  • reinstall CMOS battery
  • reconnect power cords and then power on server
  • restore iLO and BIOS settings as required
