Memory Mismatch, will it work?

Hello!

My DL380 GEN9 has 128GB Samsung Memory; 16 x 8GB 1Rx4 PC4 2133P RC0 10 MB1

From another system I do not use, I have SKhynix Memory, 84 GB; 6 x 16GB 2Rx4 PC4 2133P RA0 10.

In my DL380 GEN9 I have 6 slots available, am I able to add these 6 unused chips? It is for home server, not something that needs the fastest best, but if it would legimately work, I would like to add them, if I am able.

Suggestions?

There is no constraint based on DIMM Vendor only the DIMM Specs should match.

If it matches you can use them.

@ShabbyBRO

Hello! Thank you for the response. I do understand that the specs indeed need to be the same but I guess what confuses me is what part of the specs?
I mean one is 16GB PC4 2133P and the other is 8GB PC4 2133P which are an obvious match, but what’s the one being 1RX4 and one being 2RX4 along with one being RC0 and one RA0?
I assume there will be diff specs in regards to identifying one being 16G and one being 8G so there has to be telling specs or even the details of the resistors or whatever all the differences is, but is the PC4 2133P the spec that I am concerned about?

Any update? I apologize for my annoyance.. Really just unsure as to what pertains to being compatable.

Mixing different types of memory modules with different specifications can lead to compatibility issues, and it is generally not recommended to mix memory of different brands, speeds, and timings.

In your case, the Samsung and SKhynix memory modules have different ranks, and the Samsung modules are single-ranked while the SKhynix modules are dual-ranked. Mixing modules with different ranks can lead to memory compatibility issues as well.

Furthermore, the SKhynix memory has a higher density per module (16GB) than the Samsung memory (8GB), and the DL380 GEN9 supports a maximum memory density of 128GB per module. Thus, adding the SKhynix modules may result in exceeding the maximum memory density of the server.

Therefore, it is not recommended to mix the Samsung and SKhynix memory modules. If you need to add more memory, it is recommended to use memory modules of the same brand, specifications, and configuration as the existing memory modules to ensure compatibility and avoid potential issues.

These are my opinions so use it at your own risk.
