Migrate RAID0 to RAID1 -ProLiant G8
This is a Dynamic Smart Array B120i. The SSA (Smart Storage Administrator) is ver 1.50.4.0 The OS was installed into a single hard disc (bay 1), the SSA reports like RAID 0. Then I add a new hard disc into bay 2 (same size disc). I want to use this new hd like mirror of the first. As you know the GUI SSA dont have a option to migrate this scenario into RAID 1, only can build a second RAID0 profile.
Is there a script to do it?
If delete both RAID0, the data is lost. For now its not possible to reinstall the OS.
Running CLI commands, the message returned is: This operation is not supported with the current configuration.. reason: transformation size zero. This may indicate that there is no battery or a failed battery on the controller

Re: Migrate RAID0 to RAID1 -ProLiant G8
Hi,
The message indicates that there is no Flash Backed Write Cache (FBWC) attached to the controller. The operation intended, migrating from RAID 0 to RAID 1 online, requires one to be attached to the controller.
If this configuration were to done offline, meaning to say that the existing configuration may be erased and done afresh, then there is no need for a FBWC.
The FBWC options available are as follows:
Option Part number Description
For DL/ML Gen8 Server
631922-B21 HP 512MB B-series 36 inch Dynamic Smart Array Flash Backed Write Cache for ML/DL
For compatible Gen8 Blade Server
676473-B21 HP 512MB B-series Dynamic Smart Array Flash Backed Write Cache with 24 inch Cable
Here is the Controller's QuickSpecs for your reference.
Here is the controller's compatiblity page.
Hope this help!!
Regards,
Vijayasarathy

Re: Migrate RAID0 to RAID1 -ProLiant G8
ok I understand the card type differences, our team are talking about order a Adaptec card. I only have a question more, if I start again a new clean os installation with both hard discs, its possible enable RAID1 at Intelligent Provisioning procudure?

Not if you intend to install to an Adaptec card.
With the B120i, if you start over with a clean installation and you have both disks you can configure as a RAID 1 If you want to migrate RAID levels or you need the cache module. What server are you working with? Some servers with the B120i do not support the cache module.

Re: Migrate RAID0 to RAID1 -ProLiant G8
Of course you need to buy another smart array controller module cache support like P420 to provide the migration.
But you can save your data. After that delete and create a new array and configure RAID1.
Sincerly,

Re: Migrate RAID0 to RAID1 -ProLiant G8
Hello @Josepe
As hpkasabbagh mentioned you will need another smart array controller module cache support like the HP Smart Array P420 that is available directly through HP Small and Medium Business web site. Since you have not provided what server you current own I have provided the HP Servers that are compatible with the HP Smart Array P420/1GB FBWC 6Gb 2-ports Int SAS Controller, which are:
HP ProLiant DL160 Server
HP ProLiant DL360 Server
HP ProLiant DL380 Server
HP ProLiant DL385 Server
HP ProLiant DL560 Server
HP ProLiant ML310 Server
HP ProLiant ML350 Server
HP ProLiant SL200s Server
HP ProLiant SL200t Gen8 Server
Please contact me for any other information you may need or I can also connect you with an HP Specialist for questions that were not answered here.

Re: Migrate RAID0 to RAID1 -ProLiant G8
This is ML310e Gen8 v2.
Today is too late to reinstall the OS (Win2008), its running some months, this mean cant migrate RAID0+RAID0 into RAID1. The CLI commands dont help because the card dont support this feature, as you mean.
Thank you, I take note, hope do a reinstallation in the future.

LETS KEEP IT SIMPLE - Migrate RAID0 to RAID1 - ProLiant G8
Hi
1) the smart 100 series simply does NOT support raid level migration (forget the write cache in this case!)
2) migration from raid 0 to raid 1 requires to buy more disks (you need twice as many)
3) you can attach your disks to a 400 series controller and do the migration (upgrade from 100 to 400 IS supported)
4) if you use any controller which is not an HP smart controller you cannot access your data (you might lose them!!)
----------------
these 4 simple pieces of advice should cover everything you need to know
best regards from germany
