ML 150 G3 & Xeon e54xx series?
The ML 150 G3 run e53xx series and the e54xx appear compatible, but will the ML 150 G3 run Xeon e54xx series?
Many thanks,
Morgan.

Re: ML 150 G3 & Xeon e54xx series?
Hi Morgan,
Unfortunately I'm pretty certain it wont accept e54xx series cpu's. I had a G3 & tried to upgrade from E5110 to E5220 cpu's and got no display.
This indicates that there's either a power or pin difference in the sockets that prevents the cpu from initializing. Normally if the cpu initializes you will get a display & if it's not supported by the rom you will get the ""ERROR: Unsupported CPU installed" & then the system will shut down.
To be fair there isn't a massive difference in performance between E53xx & E54xx series cpu's & as they are so cheap now it's probably better to install the fastest E53xx series cpu's you can in it.
Hope this is of some help to you.
Cheers
Mark

Re: ML 150 G3 & Xeon e54xx series?
Hi,
ML150 G3 Server is compatible with Xeon 5000, 5100 and 5300 series of processors.
This server comes with two types of system boards and they are:
410426-001: System board (used no eariler Dual-Core only processor systems)
436718-001: System board (used on Quad-Core and newer Dual-Core processor systems, but is backward compatable with older Dual-core systems)
Intel Xeon processor 5000 and 5100 is Dual-Core
Intel Xeon processor 5300 is Quad-Core
Unfortunately there is no BIOS update available that would support Intel 5400 on this server.
Thank You!

Re: ML 150 G3 & Xeon e54xx series?
Hi,
Xeon E54XX series CPU is not compatible with ML150 G3 server as it supports only 5000, 5100, and 5300 series.
Regards,
Renji V

Re: ML 150 G3 & Xeon e54xx series?
Thanks - Renjiv, Suman_AN,bunter6
It's very very helpful to find a definitive answer on this!
There's a pair of 5345's on ebay for $40, I'll stick with that.
BTW - the new message board (I haven't been here for a while) is a nightmare. Hitting the reply button or logging in via "passport" gives me continous redirection failure messages. I had to re-edit the web address to get here!
Thanks,
Morgan.

Re: ML 150 G3 & Xeon e54xx series?
BTW - what's the system board form factor? 10" x 10" doesn't seem to conform to anything I can find - is it an HP only standard?
Thanks,
Morgan.
