ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

I have installed Windows XP on to the new G5 using RAID1 with no problems.

The trouble is the driver I took from the hp website for the G5 seems to be very slow / jumpy. The driver I used is the one here
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=uk&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=3577708&prodNameId=3577715&swEnvOID=1005&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-d5b0446cb9654d94a5a77c7fb6

What is the actual graphics chip on the G5?

Apart from this, WXP seems to be quite happy on the G5.

Any ideas much appreciated.

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

The Quick Specs for ML110 G5 doesn't mention much about the actual chip but it mentions that the server has only 8MB video memory.

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

Thanks but that much I already knew, what I would like is to know is what manufacturer the onboard graphics is...Matrox, ATI, Intel, etc.

The driver I listed shows as Matrox G200, spoke to Matrox and they say this is a very old device and not available anymore, so how can the driver from hp be the one for this new G5 machine!!!

Any ideas?

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

A working drive I have installed for Windows 2003 Server reports that it is a Matrox G200e (ServerEngines).
Hope that helps.

Hello,

I can confirm this. The onboard graphics is a Matrox G200e.

Hope this helps.

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

The driver works for me but the display seems a little slow to refresh, almost like there is no graphics acceleration!

I installed Windows XP on a G4 version of the ML110 and used the graphics driver from the hp website for that model and this is perfect.

I therefore tried the G4 driver on the G5, this was not good, BSOD!

Any ideas?
The machine otherwise works OK, just annoying that the screen is slow to repsond to refreshes or redraws.

Thanks in advance.

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

Hi JoeKing69,

I'm trying to install Windows XP on the ML110 G5 but not having any joy with the XP drivers for the HP NC105i PCIe Gigabit Server Adapter. Any help would be much appreciated. Also were there any other obsticles apart from the Graphics?

Kind Regards

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

I think the onboard NIC is a Broadcom chip, 57xx series. Have a look on the system board for a small chip with Broadcom on it. If it is then try downloading the driver from here...
http://www.broadcom.com/support/ethernet_nic/netxtreme_server.php

The graphics is the main problem, the driver from hp is working, refresh / redraws are jumpy for some reason.

I have had some issues with the onboard serial ports in the past on all the ML110 series, nothing to do with Windows OS as this is the same on Server W2K3.

To resolve I have installed a PCI-X 4 port serial card and then left the onboard empty. I believe it is something to do with console redirection / iLO but not found anything to help.

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

Joe, it is normal that the graphic behaviour on XP is slower - by default the visual settings are turned on.

Can you try to go to control panel - system - advanced - performance - settings - adjust for best performance. Does it fix the problem?

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

Sounds like a plan, unfortunately I shipped the server to the end user already.

I will make arrangements to try this next time I'm there or when I configure the next ML110 G5 with Windows XP.

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

When you configure seervers like this do you start with the Smart Start CD? It will usually have all the drivers for the latest models of servers and you whould not have to download any individual drivers from the HP website. Just make you that you download the latest version of the Smart Start CD from the HP website and keep it handy. I have had many times where strange problems have happened because I got in a hurry and just pop in the Windows install disk and start an install totally forgetting about the Smart Start CD. Then go back and re-install with the Smart Start CD and the strange happenings disappear.

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

hi

100 Series server do not support smartstart CD

that is only for 300, 500 and 700 series

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

Changed 'Visual Effects' setting to 'Adjust for best performance' and although better, it is only a very small improvement.

Not resolved the issue!

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

Hello all,

I'm currently runing Vista on this machine as a desktop client (Is all the company I work for had!). :( Still the graphics work fine, but aren't amazing.

Having spent a while searching the web, I couldn't find a driver for this OS nor XP, the only one I found was the one listed on HP's suport site for server 2003.
I've put the graphics down to being one of those things that a server isn't required to be amazing on!

Revert to a previous driver for a more stable platform than using one for a differing OS.

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

Hi guys,

Has anyone installed a 2nd Sata optical dvd burner to the 110? I've put one in and the BIOS doesn't pick it up. Only way it picks it up is if I enable SATA RAID Controller in which case I get the dreaded BSOD in XP :-(

Any ideas?

Many thanks

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

You have to activate Windows XP either online or via telephone.

No I did not have a solution for the graphics issue but it is a little better if advanced features are disabled!

Lets just say that I no longer use the ML110 series.

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

Hi Joe...

Thanks for addressing both these problems (NIC & Graphics)...

Was able to achieve what you've notified...

I used to recommend the G4 with Vista... used to work superb...

I'd like to know with Vista what do you recommend now... As I too wouldn't want to continue with G5...

Thanks,

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

Sorry but I have no experience of Vista on the ML110, in fact, I have moved away from them completely!

They used to be great value for money but ever since the G4 and G5 series, they have caused me so much trouble that I have changed to another manufacturer.

Sorry HP, but I don't know what has happened after the G3 series to make these so painful to work with.

this is because I just would like to know

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

Hi Karlo...

For one thing, its price v/s performance...
Secondly, I use it as a Web Server with Static IP (for limited access)

Hence, the performance output is great in combination with OS cost... As in comparision with Server OS...

Hello Joe:

One small thing...

I still have an unknown device...
Any pointers what could it be?

Sorry for being obscure...

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

It could be the Serial over LAN or maybe you need to use the NULL driver.

Re: ML110 G5 Graphics Driver

I've the same problem with G200e on a freshly installed XP (for testing purposes, the definitive OS will be a Linux CentOS). Moreover I have some erratic system errors: non-blocking winlogon error (event 1004) or boot failure because of ntoskrnl.exe corruption (on a simple reboot it works). I have Avira installed but still never seen it causing a similar sequence of problems.
