ML110 Gen10 - Boot on an M.2 SATA SSD

I am trying to install OS on an M.2 SATA SSD via HPE Dual M.2 SATA SSD Enablement Option. Just for clarifying, I just installed one unique disk (Samsung 980 MZ-V8V1T0BW) because the target is a RAID 0 configuration.

Unfortunately, disk is not detected.

Re: ML110 Gen10 - Boot on an M.2 SATA SSD

Hi,

If I understand correctly, you are trying to install one HPE SSD and other one is Samsung.

May be this article will help you, (On an HPE server configured with a PCIe M.2 adapter, the HPE Universal SATA 6G AIC HHHL M.2 SSD Enablement Kit (Part number: 878783-B21) is required to install SATA M.2 SSD drives. Two drives can be installed using the enablement kit but different types of SSD drives are not supported or configurable. Both drives must be the same type.).

Thank You!

Re: ML110 Gen10 - Boot on an M.2 SATA SSD

Hi,

Thanks for your return.

Sorry if I was not clear.
I am trying to install one unique SSD (not two) using the HPE Universal SATA 6G AIC HHHL M.2 SSD Enablement Kit (Part number: 878783-B21).
But unfortunately, the SSD is not visible or not activated. No physical drive is detected. Same for the HPE Enablement kit.

I already checked the SSD (Samsung 1To) and it is running perfectly.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Gilles

Hi,

Please refer to this guide:
Page# 100.  (The M.2 SSD enablement board is supported in the PCIe3 expansion slots 1, 3, and 4. This enablement board is not a detectable option in the System Utilities > System Configuration > BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) > StorageOptions > PCIe Storage Boot Policy setting.)

Thank You!

Re: ML110 Gen10 - Boot on an M.2 SATA SSD

Hi,

The board is currently installed in the PCI slot 3 and the cabling is correct.
As the kit is not detectable, could you please explain how to install OS on the M.2 SSD ?
Could you confirm that 1 unique SSD can be installed on the board or 2 identical SSD is required ? In my case, I have just one SSD.
Thanks by advance.

Re: ML110 Gen10 - Boot on an M.2 SATA SSD

Hello,

As you confirmed that the cabling is correct. I would request you to reseat the kit and perform a power cycle of the server

  1. Remove the power cords from the server completely
  2. Press the power button for 20 seconds
  3. Connect the cords back and power on the server

Reset BIOS to defaults from System utilities and then check.

OS installation can be done using the manual installation method. You need to provide a Smart array driver in case you are trying to install Windows.

If this still does not work, i would request you to log a case with HPE support for extended troubleshooting on this.

Thanks,

TAM
