ML350 G3 takes 35 to 45 min to boot.

Hi,

I have just bought a Proliant ML350 G3 with a SA-641 and 2 HDD 36,4 GB U320 (RAID1) and it takes about 40 minutes to boot from the time I push the power button to the time the logon screen appears.
When I tried to reinstall it using only the OS CD (2003 Server) with the SA-641 driver diskette it took approximately the same time to boot in the screen 'Setup is now initializing Windows' or something to that effect...
What do you think of this?

have you tried to re-flash the bios on this server?

That is an excessive amount of time to wait for this server (for any server!) I would suspect a bunch of things wrong, but to test that theory requires diagnostics. The best kind of diagnostics are done "Off-Line".

If you can have this server down for at least 24 hours (more is sometimes better) you could run a full battery of tests against the box.
Here is a link to the ISO to build the HP Diagnostics CD:

Let us know?
Enjoy!

Re: ML350 G3 takes 35 to 45 min to boot.

John,

the server is brand new and I just updated de BIOS with that version. I had also run the Offline Diags with (diskette version) for 12 hours (aroung 150 passes) and nothing wrong was detected. The server isn't in production yet, but is urgently needed. Will try the Diagnostics CD you linked and post back the results.
btw, the drivers page links (http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/family/model/4678.html?submit.y=2&submit.x=12тМй=en&cc=us) all report 'we're very sorry! The page you requested can not be found.' and I couldn't get there if it weren't for the direct link...
Thnx

Re: ML350 G3 takes 35 to 45 min to boot.

Hi,

If you boot into safe mode is it just as slow? (i.e without all drivers loaded). This might suggest a hardware rather than software problem.

Also check the contents of the Integrated Management Log (IML) using the IML viewer (if installed). This might give you a clue to any previous hardware failures.

I hope this helps,

Brian

Re: ML350 G3 takes 35 to 45 min to boot.

Problem solved, thanks to all.
Had to call hp tech support because it became apparent it was a hw problem they 1st replaced the SA-641, but the problem was only solved when they exchanged the System Board.
Thanks again to all.
