I have ML350G4 and would like to upgrade its storage space.
As one of the options, I've got a proposal to install HP StorageWorks MSA70 (418800-B21)with the following parts kitting:
Smart Array P600 SAS Controller (337972-B21)
Smart Array P800 SAS Cable Kit for MSA50 - 4 Metre (419572-B21)
512MB Battery Back Write Cache Module for SA64x and P600 Controller (372538-B21)
Please, advice is it operable scheme?

I have the same plan like you but I am using DL380 G4. Had you implement your ML350 G4 with MSA70 ? Is that work ?
Please tell me and let me know if this is really posible.Thank you very much.
Best regard,
Yayat

Yes, I implemented scheme mentioned in my question and it works fine. The only additional procedure I did is BIOS update.

Re: ML350 G4 + HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 70
Thanks for your immediatly reply. Firstly I would like to give you points because you have already done it, that was proven answer.
Then please tell me why you should update the BIOS and what is the minimum version of BIOS required and what is your operating system version ? I am using windows 2000 advanced server.
Thank you in advance.

Yayat

Re: ML350 G4 + HP StorageWorks Modular Smart Array 70
Initially BIOS which came with my server (since it quite old model) didn't support new models of controllers (BIOS version was from mid 2005 or something).
I downloaded _latest_ available bios and HP Array Configuration Utility from hp.com and after it everything went smoothly.
I am using Windows Server Standard 2003SP2.
Partitioning I did according to MS recomendations (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/GPT_FAQ.mspx)
Best regards,
Alex
