ML350 Gen 9 - Support for 30 Disks

Hi.

I configured a ML350 Gen9 on SBW with 1x P840/4G & 1x SAS Expander.

When I added 3x 8 Bay optional drive cage

The configuration states it can support max of 32 Disks.

Question

1. Can 1x P840/4G & 1x SAS Expander support 32 Disks ?

2. I'm looking for the cabling guide where P840 first port will be connected to the SAS expander while the second port will be connected to the default 8 bay drive cage (via Y-Cable).

Thanks,

Paul

Re: ML350 Gen 9 - Support for 30 Disks

Hello,

The HP 12G SAS Expander Card supports up to 26 internal drive bays (supports 3 8SFF drive backplanes with each holding 8 drive bays + 2SFF back of the server) only.

Regarding cabling please refer to this document.

Regards,

Vijayasarathy

Re: ML350 Gen 9 - Support for 30 Disks

Hi.

Hope this info will help someone else who will encounter a similar concern. I had sleepless nights. Since, the person I was talking to HP said I would need to get a second SAS expander to detect disks 25 to 48.

The first disk expander can only detect disks 1 to 24, according to them and all their documents they forwarded.

Just an update. I got the server today.

With 1x P840 & 1x SAS Expander all 30 Disks are seen. If you look at ACU they are shown as 30x Physical Disks & 30x unassigned disks.

The first port on the P840 connects to the 1st SAS expander. While the second Port on the P840 connects directly to ann 8 bay drive cage via a Y-Cable. Since, the P840 has a double wide x8 connector.

You don't need to get a 2nd SAS Expander.

Thanks,

Paul
