Re: multiprocessor not suported

I am having the same problem. I tried to upgrade to Windows 2000 Server and received the same error message. I do not have a processor terminiator board so I removed the PPM from processor 2 and the system started using one processor and the multiprocessor kernel. To eliminate the upgrade, I performed a clean install and recieved the same error. I also had set my APIC to Full Table, Mapped. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: multiprocessor not suported

f1'd pass a .. 212-processor failed error .. cont'd the win2k install came up
in win2k .. saw both processors in win2k device mgr. restarted .. f10'd into
compaq's config .. said yes to repair.. go figure .. we are back to ground
zero, multiprocessor_configuration_not_supported ..
COMPAQ what's going on here !?!?!?!

Re: multiprocessor not suported

These errors are caused by mismatches in the stepping levels of the processors. 2000 is far more specific than NT 4.0 in terms of processor tolerance. The processor failed error is not a hardware error but rather feedback from the OS when it blue screens. To clear the error run config and choose yes to reapair and it will post test without error. The only solution is to replace one or both of the processors ensuring that the step levels are the same. Hopefully your servers are still under warranty and the swap out will be free . . . . .

Re: multiprocessor not suported

the stepping is ocnfigured the same .. how do you determine w2k tolerances ? .. how do you determine a matched set of processors ?

Re: multiprocessor not suported

Windows 2000 has almost no tolerance for processors of different steps (some have have gotten them to work if they are VERY close in step and the lowest step processor is installed in slot 1). The steeping can be found by looking at the code which follows the serial number etched on the processor itself. The prior post indicates that the stepping is "configured" the same. There is no way to "configure" processor stepping as it is determined at the time of manufacture. Try changing the order of the processors but it is unlikely to make make a difference.

Re: multiprocessor not suported

Have you tried upgrading the Bios for the system, Controller and Drives. This worked when I did it.

Re: multiprocessor not suported

Stepping can be determined by typing set at a command prompt.
