Hello,
The document "HPE InfiniBand FDR/Ethernet 2-Port 544+QSFP/FLR-QSFP and 547FLR-QSFP Adapters - Product Information Reference" inidicates that it has been designed for PCI Express 3.0 x 8 expansion slots on HPE Gen9 and Gen10 servers.
This would indicate that the Gen8 server is not sufficiently designed to power the above card as the above card appears to be a future release than that of the release of that Gen8 server.
Regards,

Re: My HP G8 DL380p makes an error when I put a flexlom 40GBe 544+FLR 764285-B21 in it Er
Thanks
I see in the
QuickSpecs HP ProLiant DL380p Generation8 (Gen8)
https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c04128241&docLocale=en_US
It appears to list some 40gb adapters
HP Infiniband FDR/Ethernet 10Gb/40Gb 2-port 544QSFP Adapter 649281-B21
HP Infiniband FDR/Ethernet 10Gb/40Gb 2-port 544FLR-QSFP Adapter 649282-B21
HP Infiniband QDR/Ethernet 10Gb 2-port 544FLR-QSFP Adapter 649283-B21
I suppose that 544+FLR is not electrically backwards compatible
I'm surprised at how incompatible these strange "flexlom" pcie cards really are.
I am very disappointed I won't be able to use the 6x 544+flr I got for my G8 home cluster
I will try my luck with buying the "544FLR-QSFP" non plus variant instead
