NC7131 seen as only as "ethernet card" in BIOS on Proliant 1600
I have two Proliant 1600 P8s. Dual PIII 600, 1GB memory, 3200 64MB RAID in each. System ROM version 11/08/2000 on both.
I am attempting to install a Compaq NC71731 Gigabit NIC in each.
On one 1600, the BIOS recognizes it correctly as a NC7131, but the other 1600 only sees it as an "Ethernet Card".
Windows 2k cannot recognize the NC7131 in this state. I have also tried a spare NC7131 on the second server with the same results. Also tried moving the NIC to another slot, same results.
Ideas?
Alan

Re: NC7131 seen as only as "ethernet card" in BIOS on Proliant 1600
Hi Alan;
It's possible that the PL1600 hasn't been reconfigured at the new BIOS level and cannot recognize a newer card.
Make sure your F10 partition is up to date and then run a Clear NVRAM using the advanced feature of the utility.
Instructions can be located at http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x29c07680e012d71190050090279cd0f9,00.html if you need them.
Cheers,
Janine

To get results you've never had before, try something you've never tried before.

Unfortunately I know this problem too. Best solution: do not use this NIC in PCI slots.
Second best solution: after Installing the server, you can Update the drivers for this "Ethernet Card" and then W2K recognize the NC77xx
Finest Solution, but not recommended: work your way through the corresponding *.INF files and change them. Disadvantage: these files are no signed anymore. Advantage: you get what you want automatically after much initial work.
