Need help. Trying to find out specific information on HP ProLogic DL380 G6
Hi there. I've been asked to do some research for the company I work for. Does the ProLogic DL380 required proprietary SFF SAS/SATA HDD's, or can generic ones work as well? We know that the quality may not be as good as the ones offered by HP, however our new IT manager is more concerned about cost right now.

An IT Manager more concerned about cost than platform stability in a production environment with new G6's?
Hmmm...Maybe but it's not something anyone would recommend.
Well at least when things fail to perform as designed (and they will) you can always blame him and then have nice new shiny office available to occupy :-)
Also good luck in getting timely support resolutions for unsupported configurations. Not to mention possible voided warranties, etc...
Hey ask him to drive his car with on steel rims without the tires to save money and see how far he gets...
YMMV

Re: Need help. Trying to find out specific information on HP ProLogic DL380 G6
Hey man, I am just doing what I was asked to do LOL Techincally it wasn't the IT manager who wanted to get cheaper drives, but his new boss - (Not sure why the company hired him yet since our manager has setup everything from the ground up over the past two years. The company had to give him a title "Director of IT resources" LOL). I think it's the president's way of controlling our IT spending personally. The "Director" asked the IT manager, who asked me (Help desk) to do the research. So I'm just doing what I was asked and will report back what I find regarding whether or not the server requires proprietary drives for storage. I wasn't asked for my opinion. If things fail it wont be on my back.

Servers require supported controllers, array controllers require supported drives, drives require supported Firmware, etc....
Manuals and Drivers:

DL380 G6 Quickspecs for supported options:
http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/13234_na/13234_na.pdf
In the drive sections there are quickspec links for the supported drive specifications you're looking for.
Best of luck!
