Need help with tape drive installation

I have a Proliant 1500 Netware 4.11 SP7. I just bougt a 20/40 GB tape autoloader from Compaq. Using Veritas v8.5 on server. I get a driver error . I applied the lastest NSSD to the server. Still driver error. I claim Hardware ignorance, what steps do I need to do to get it installed. It is external device. SCSI.
