Network Link down with Gigabit NICs

I have 2 Proliant ML370 G2 (1 with Win2000 TS, 1 with NetWare 5.x).
These two servers are connected via a direct Gigabit Connection.
In both servers is a Gigabit NIC, in the hot-plug pci slot, installed.
The problem is, that min. one time per day this connection is down.
what can be the problem ?

I have the same configuration with Proliant ML 370 (1. generation), but there i haven`t these problems
