Outdated Issues with Proliant DL360p Gen8

Details: HP BIOS P71 11/01/2014
Intelligent Provisioning is not working, it just reboot it again
ACU/F5 is also the same

My workaround and issues I've found so far:

  1. Tried to setup RAID:
    - "NVRAM config is disabled"
    - Cannot access F10 and with F8 the array thing, when I tried to save config, it just said error

  2. Tried to flash Intelligent Provisioning:
    - It just doesnt work becuase of ILO Communicating failed. ILO is version 4

  3. Tried with SPP 8.1
    - It doesnt work because of as follows:
"/proc/misc: no entry for device-mapper found
Is device-mapper driver missing from kernel?
Failure to communicate with kernel device-mapper driver."
Essentially my current bios is too outdated.

- Could not find any other version of SPP for GEN8.

4. Tried to install ubuntu (despite not configure Raid):
- Successfully install but after reboot, it just not boot to the disk eventhough I already choose boot to HDD

5. Tried to install poxmox (despite not configure Raid):
- Successfully install but after reboot, it just not boot to the disk eventhough I already choose boot to HDD

Re: Outdated Issues with Proliant DL360p Gen8

Hello @HarithSyaz,

Since Intelligent Provisioning and SPP won’t load, we’ll do manual firmware flashing via USB.

ILO 4 can be updated via its web UI (if you can access it).

  1. Download the latest ILO 4 firmware binary (.bin) from HPE’s official site:

  2. Boot the server and wait for the ILO network light.

  3. Access ILO via its IP (or DHCP-assigned IP check your router).

  4. Log in (the default username and password are on the server tag).

  5. Go to Administration >> Firmware.

  6. Upload the .bin file and flash.

If the Intelligent Provisioning doesn’t work, do this manually.

    1. Download the BIOS (System ROMPaq) for your Gen8 model

    2. Run the .exe on a Windows PC — it extracts a bootable USB image.

    3. Boot your server from that USB.

    4. Follow prompts to flash the BIOS.

Repeat similarly for ILO firmware if you can’t access it via web.

If the issue persists: Clear NVRAM and Reinitialize Array Controller >> Recreate boot environment.
