Power Supply Solution Not Sufficient

Last week I got GPU power cable for my ml350 gen9.
After installation, everything seemed fine I did some tests to see if cooling/power is sufficient. Everything went OK with two 500W PSUs. PSU config is in balanced mode (load is divided between two PSUs equally).

I turned off machine and wanted to turn it on next day.
Got this error:
1627-IMPORTANT: Power Supply Solution Not Sufficient
Critical Failure Detected - System shutting Down in 5 seconds.

I can't boot, can't go into the BIOS or intelligent provisioning because it turns off before I can do anything.
So I cleared nvram with maintenance switch 6. Did not help.
My thought was that machine registered more than 500W load and didn't want to start again because what if one PSU will fail.

OK. Ordered two 1400W PSUs.

Installed two 1400W PSUs and same issue. I tried again to clear nvram again and cmos. Same issue. I tried removing GPU, removing every hdd. Did not help.

I don't get it really. Can it be power supply distribution board?

Any tip is greatly appreciated.

Re: Query: Power Supply Solution Not Sufficient

Did not help at all.

1: I can't access HP Insight Management as I can't boot.

2: My issue is not in emerging issues and solutions.

Anyone have any clue for what can cause this?

Hello,

You may refer to section "Core Options > HPE Power Supplies and HPE Computation and Graphics Accelerators" on page 33 of the HPE ProLiant ML350 Gen9 Server's QuickSpecs for more information to identify if the part required is appropriately installed.

Re: Query: Power Supply Solution Not Sufficient

Thank you for your reply.

As I stated in my post. My server with GPU was working at first for over 8 hours of my tests.

I got the error the next day when I turned on the server.

Re: Query: Power Supply Solution Not Sufficient

Hi @richard_dz,

Thank you for the Post and for trying the steps.

Here it does looks like the issue with the Power Supply Backplane.

If Minimum Configuration is not tried, do try it once and share the results.

Thank you

Re: Query: Power Supply Solution Not Sufficient

Thanks for your time

I actually did not try minimum configuration. I don't have time for that now.   I tried to remove all components now. Only installed components are: one CPU in P1 slot, one 32GB dimm in A slot, disconnected SAS cables from p440ar.  Same issue, power supply solution not sufficient.

Friend of mine suggested that if electric circuitry in the house is not grounded, that could be also problem and recommended to connect server to UPS. I tried that, both inverter and battery mode on UPS, but that did not help. Same issue.

I ordered Power Supply Backplane and it should arrive next week, I'll share the results for sure.

Curious thing is that IML is showing POST Error: 1627 as Caution severity. Shouldn't that be critical severity?

Re: Query: Power Supply Solution Not Sufficient

FYI: it was Power Supply Backplane issue.

After swapping it to new (refurbished) issue no longer exists. Thank you all.
