problem with p440ar on proliant ml350 gen 9

Hi everyone, I have a problem that is driving me crazy, I have a Proliant ML350 Gen9, there are 5 SAS disks, the P440AR controller is not even detected on the BIOS, I have already updated the BIOS and firmware, the disks flash green for a few seconds but then nothing, I tried to change the P440AR card with a new card but I have the same problem, it is not even detected on provision, does it need to be installed somehow?

Hello,

It appears that the slot could be faulty. Please install known working PCIe card in the slot and check if it is discovered. If it is detected, then re-install the array controller and check. If not, then the system board may require replacement.

How many CPUs does your server have? Did you install the controller in a slot that connects to an empty CPU slot...? Happened to me more than one time...

If this is not the case, check the CPUs for dirt and the sockets for bent pins. Since PCI busses go directly into the CPU, the problem could also be on that side of the wire. Maybe exchange the two CPUs or try another PCI slot for the controller.

thanks, I only have one cpu, one slot is empty, can I swap the cpu or do I have to do some procedure before moving it from one slot to another?

You can't run your server with only one CPU in socket 2. The CPU needs to be in socket 1. If you have two CPUs, you can swap them for a test. Consult the users guide to see what PCI sockets are connected to CPU1 and then use those. If you install your card in a PCI socket that is connected to CPU2, it will not be seen.
