Proliant DL360 gen7 + DL380 gen9 with SSD WDS100T2B0A and HDD ST8000VN004
I have been unlucky.
I did buy two servers from bargain hardware (bargainhardware.co.uk), it was a DL360 gen7 and a DL380 gen9. I was thinking I don't need the RAID controller because I wasn't going to use hardware RAID anyway.
I was trying to connect my SSD and harddisks to the DL380 backplane, and the operating system installer didn't find the harddisks. Then I was researching and realized that I am missing a data cable between the backplane and the motherboard. Well, then I guess I have to buy the cable or RAID controller for the DL380 then.
My questions:
Do I need a P440ar RAID controller to use the SSD WD Blue WDS100T2B0A and the HDD Seagate Ironwolf ST8000VN004 in the DL380? I only have 2 SSD and 2 HDD, so I don't need the server to support more than 4 harddisks.
And i don't need the hardware RAID feature. Could I just fix a mini SAS cable between the backplane and the motherboard, or do I need the controller too? The server have B140i built in, I think.
It is 8 bay SFF backplane. (Yes, I know I don't have space for the 3,5" disks, but I have a solution with an SATA extender, so don't think about it)
If not, then could I just buy a pci-express controller with sata ports and use it instead? Just plug the pci-express card in, connect the sata ports to the harddisks, and then it works?
And then, the DL360. I also did buy it without controller, and I am also going to use the same harddisks on that server too. 2x SSD, 2X HDD. I don't have the two cables I need between the backplane and the motherboard, but I know it have a P410i built in (Bargain Hardware says). Will that controller accept the harddisks? How about the P410 controller then? Do I need to buy that?
What should I do here?
Thank you in advance for responses.

Hi,
Thank you for the Post.
Please confirm what is the Controller currently installed.
B140i Controller do support SATA SSD : More information here : https://support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=c04441385
This Guide has information on how to Configure and features of the Controller.
Similarly you can check the Quickspecs of the Controller to get details on supported Drives and other features.
Based on your requriement you may decide which controller you may need.
