Proliant DL380p G8 & P420i
I have been having issues trying to get my DL380p G8 and P420i controller to work together. To make a long story short, I was using the SATA controller and could only use 3 drives, I had bought a P420i controller a year or so ago, and recently my son decided to pull my drives out of the server. So, I decided to start over and throw the 420i that I got off eBay in.
I did some research on the 'cmd = 0h, err = 00h, loockup = 0DEAD: DEAD' error, and I read to update the Service Pack to 8.1. I did run the ISO file and it said the drivers were on the latest. So, the server does recognize it, however, when I go to mess with array settings it says no controller found. This server was the virtualization server that I use to mess around and learn VMware stuff. I have absolutely no idea where to go from here. I would greatly appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you.

Re: Query: Proliant DL380p G8 & P420i
Hey, I have tried literally every option I can think of in BIOS, I use to have the option to change array settings when I first set it up. Now, I can't find my hard drives or anything.

Re: Proliant DL380p G8 & P420i
Hello,
You may use HPE Smart Storage Administrator (HPE SSA) launched from Intelligent Provisioning and see if the controller is accessible. To access Intelligent Provisioning, power on or reboot the server and press F10 when prompted duringthe server POST. On the Intelligent Provisioning home screen, click 'Perform Maintenance'. Select HPE Smart Storage Administrator (SSA) from the maintenance options.
If the controller is not listed, then power off the server, reseat the controller PCIe card or swap it on to a different PCIe slot and check if it is detected.

Re: Proliant DL380p G8 & P420i
Check by going to offline SSA via Intelligent Provisioning. If the controller is not detecting here then first check in BIOS if the controller is detecting. If not ther possible faulty controller or slot. If the controller is discovered in BIOS but not in offline SSA then it possible is an issue with the version of SSA installed. Since offline SSA is no longer availble hence we recommend you to boot the server with compatible Service pack for proliant which also includes the offline SSA which you can use to manage the array.
Hope this was helpful
