Proliant ML310 G5 problem
hi,
I have Proliant ML310 G5 server with 3 SATA HDDs configured as below
Disk0 - 250 GB - OS (win2k3)
Disk1 - 500 GB - data (RAID1)
Disk2 - 500 GB - data (RAID1)
My disk0 is corrupted, so i replaced it with a new one. I removed RAID1 HDDs and re-installed Win2K3 on my new disk. After that, i inserted RAID1 HDDs into their old slots. Everything looks good, Win2k3 seems to recognize RAID1 drive. I can assign it a drive letter but when i try to open the drive, i got the message
"The disk in drive X is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?"
Am i doing it wrong?? is there any solution to solve this issue??
Thanks.

Re: Proliant ML310 G5 problem
Hi,
I far as I know there is no solution/recovery from HP SW.
But you can try this forum and TestDisk utility to recover the drive.

Re: Proliant ML310 G5 problem
Hi Nguyen,
which Sata controller do you have ? Is it onboard with Raid 0/1 capability?
"The disk in drive X is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?"
error message indicates that it's a new HDD or logical volume
SO verify the raid status from Raid configuration utility.
thanks,
Aftab

Re: Proliant ML310 G5 problem
Hi,
this seems probably the windows overwriting the partition information
in win2k3 std edition and below the automount is always enabled (wink23 ent edition and all win2k8 version are by default disabled), so when u insert an drive with basic filesystem MS Windows will try to automount during which it might overwrite the partition info
Now in your in case if it is an win2k3 std edition this could have happened and probably only solution is using some third party tools to recovery the partition info
in future i suggest to disable the automount option as soon as windows is installed, follow the steps mentioned below
1. open the command prompt window
2. run cmd 'diskpart' (this will open the disk partition shell prompt)
3. type autmount (this will show if it is enabled or disabled)
4. type autmount disbale (this will disable the automount feature)
5. exit (to come out of diskpart shell prompt)
Regards,
Jagadish
